Find Travis County Jail Bookings Through the Official Inmate Search
If you are trying to find someone currently held in a Travis County jail, start with the Travis County Sheriff’s Office inmate search. The official county system is the correct first stop for current custody information and the identifiers needed for other jail services.

Court, Criminal, Marriage, Divorce, Property
A booking record or booking photograph documents an arrest and jail-processing event. It does not prove guilt or show the final outcome of the criminal case. Travis County court records should be checked when later charges, hearings or disposition matter.
Which Travis County Record Answers Your Question?
“Travis County inmate mugshots” can describe several different searches. Current jail custody, a booking photograph, an arrest report, bond information and a criminal court case are maintained through different government processes.
Is the person in Travis County jail now?
Use the Travis County Sheriff inmate search. Travis County’s criminal-court pages also direct users to TCSO for people currently in custody.
Search current inmates →Do you need the actual mugshot?
TCSO says a member of the public who is not media must obtain a booking photograph through the Sheriff’s Open Records Request process.
See booking-photo instructions →Do you need current bond information?
TCSO says charges can be viewed in the inmate search and bond information appears under each charge when available.
Official bond information →Do you need a felony case record?
Adult felony criminal records are maintained by the Travis County District Clerk. Public case information is available through the county’s online court-record system.
District Clerk criminal records →Do you need a misdemeanor case?
Travis County Clerk handles Class A and B misdemeanor court records and certain appealed Class C cases.
County Clerk misdemeanor search →Do you need the law-enforcement report?
A jail booking is not the same as the arresting agency’s incident report. Request the report from TCSO only when TCSO maintains the record; another arresting agency may be the correct custodian.
TCSO incident-report guidance →How to Search the Travis County Jail Roster
Travis County provides an official online inmate search for people currently in Sheriff custody. Use the strongest identifying information available and verify the result carefully before repeating arrest information about another person.
Open the official Travis County inmate search
Start with the county’s public inmate-search system instead of a cached mugshot page, social-media post or commercial people-search website.
Search the person’s current jail record
Travis County states that people currently in custody can be searched by name. Use the spelling that would most likely appear on the booking and avoid guessing when several people have similar names.
Compare identifying information
TCSO uses details such as full name, date of birth, Jail ID Number and Booking Number for inmate services. Compare available identifiers rather than relying only on a same-name result.
Check the housing location
Travis County operates both the downtown Travis County Jail/Central Booking Facility and the Travis County Correctional Complex in Del Valle. Confirm the location associated with the inmate before mailing property, arranging a visit or traveling.
Move to bond or court records when needed
Use the Sheriff bond information for jail-side release information and the appropriate court system for filed charges, hearings and later disposition.
How to Request a Travis County Booking Photo
The Travis County Sheriff’s Public Information Office gives separate guidance for booking photographs. For members of the general public who are not media, TCSO says booking photos must be obtained through an Open Records Request.
General public
Submit a written Open Records Request to the Travis County Sheriff’s Office. TCSO asks requesters to include their name, address and a detailed description of the records requested.
Give enough information to identify the booking accurately, such as the booked person’s name and other known booking details. Do not request a photograph based only on an uncertain same-name match.
Media requests
TCSO’s Public Information Office publishes a separate process for media. When TCSO is the arresting agency, media booking-photo requests require the relevant affidavit or warrant information. If another agency made the arrest, TCSO says authorization from that agency is required for the image’s release.
This distinction matters because being booked into Travis County jail does not necessarily mean the Sheriff’s Office was the agency that made the arrest.
Where Travis County Arrests Are Booked
TCSO says a person arrested in Travis County is brought to the Central Booking Facility located within the Travis County Jail at 500 W. 10th Street in Austin.
Booking and later custody are not the same location
The downtown jail contains Travis County’s Central Booking operation. The Sheriff’s Corrections Bureau also operates the Travis County Correctional Complex in Del Valle, where much of the county’s inmate housing is located.
Because inmates can move between booking and housing locations, use the current inmate search before sending mail, arranging a visit or traveling to a jail facility.

TCSO identifies this downtown location as the Central Booking Facility where people arrested in Travis County enter the jail system.

What Travis County Jail Information Can—and Cannot—Tell You
A jail record represents custody and booking information. It should not be expanded into conclusions that only a court record can establish.
| Record detail | What it helps answer | What it does not prove |
|---|---|---|
| Current custody result | Whether a matching person appears in current TCSO custody. | Guilt or conviction. |
| Booking number | Helps identify a specific jail booking. | The final outcome of the criminal case. |
| Charge entry | Shows a charge associated with the jail record. | That the charge resulted in conviction or remained unchanged. |
| Bond information | Shows jail-side bond information associated with a charge when available. | That an older bond amount or condition remains current. |
| Booking photo | Identifies the photograph associated with a booking when lawfully released. | Guilt, present custody or the current legal status of the case. |
| Housing location | Helps identify where the inmate is being housed at that stage. | That the person will remain at that facility. |
Where to Find Travis County Bond Information
TCSO says bond information appears under each charge in the inmate search when bond has been set. The Sheriff’s current guidance recognizes cash, surety and personal bonds, but the type permitted depends on the individual charge and judicial decision.
Read the bond line before choosing a payment route
If the inmate search says “ANY type of bond,” TCSO says cash, surety or personal bond may be possible. If it says “cash or surety,” a personal bond is not permitted for that charge.
“No bond information available” means no bond has been set for that charge at that time; TCSO notes that bond may be set later.
Cash bonds
TCSO currently accepts cash bonds in person at the jail facility where the defendant is housed. Published payment methods include exact cash, cashier’s check or money order made payable to the Travis County Sheriff’s Office.
TCSO instructs users to call 512-854-4180 to confirm the applicable location.
Personal bonds work differently
Travis County says a defendant cannot personally submit a personal-bond request. Travis County Pretrial Services or an attorney may submit the request, and only a judge can approve release on personal bond.
TCSO publishes 512-854-9381 for inquiries about the status of a defendant’s personal-bond application.
Check the Travis County Criminal Case After Booking
The jail record is not the final legal record. Travis County separates felony and misdemeanor records between different clerks, while the county Criminal Docket Search can help locate future court settings.
| What you need | Responsible source | Useful detail |
|---|---|---|
| Adult felony case | Travis County District Clerk | Maintains adult felony criminal records and provides public case information. |
| Class A or B misdemeanor | Travis County Clerk | County Clerk Misdemeanor Division maintains the county misdemeanor record system. |
| Upcoming criminal court setting | Travis County Criminal Docket Search | Search by arrested person’s name, attorney, judge/court or case number. |
| Felony record copy | District Clerk Criminal Division | Use the District Clerk records-request process for copies when required. |
| Misdemeanor search or copy | County Clerk Misdemeanor Division | Case data from June 1986 forward is available online; redacted document images begin later. |
Felony case information
The District Clerk says its public Odyssey Portal provides a register of actions for cases available to the public. Its current digital-record portal includes criminal cases from 2008 to the present.
Misdemeanor case information
The County Clerk says misdemeanor case data from June 1986 to the present is online. Redacted document images from December 2005 to the present are also available online, subject to the county’s stated coverage and access limitations.
Court data is updated every 24 hours, while newly filed document images can take about 72 hours to appear.
Use the record sequence that matches the task
Current custody → TCSO inmate search → booking and bond information → identify the charge/case → District Clerk for felony or County Clerk for misdemeanor → Criminal Docket Search for an upcoming setting.
This sequence reduces the risk of treating a jail record as the final criminal case result.
What to Do if the Travis County Inmate Search Shows No Match
A missing current-custody result does not automatically mean the person was never arrested. Use the next official source based on the situation instead of repeatedly searching the same jail page.
Booking may still be processing
An arrest and entry into the jail system are separate stages. Recheck the official system and contact jail information when the arrest was very recent.
Check the criminal court case
A person can leave county custody while the prosecution continues. Move to District Clerk or County Clerk records depending on the case level.
Use TDCJ after transfer
If the person has entered Texas state-prison custody, use the Texas Department of Criminal Justice offender search instead of a county jail lookup.
Confirm the arrest jurisdiction
An arrest connected with the Austin area does not automatically mean the person is housed in Travis County. Verify which agency and county actually took custody.
Do not guess the identity
Compare date of birth, Jail ID, Booking Number and other identifiers when available. A common name alone is not enough to establish a match.
Use the records-request route
If the person is no longer in current custody and your legitimate need is the booking photograph, use TCSO’s booking-photo and Open Records guidance.
Travis County Jail Visitation: Verify the Facility First
Travis County currently conducts family and friend visitation at the Travis County Correctional Complex in Del Valle. Confirm current custody and the current visit schedule before traveling.
Current published visitation hours
TCSO currently lists visitation Wednesday through Sunday, excluding county holidays, from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. for face-to-face in-person visits and onsite video visits.
Face-to-face visits must be scheduled at least 24 hours in advance through the county’s current visitation provider.
Visitor requirements
- Visitors age 17 or older need government-issued photo identification.
- Minors under 17 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
- Face-to-face family/friend visits remain non-contact.
- Late arrival can result in cancellation and the need to register again.
Use Texas IVSS-Counties for Custody-Status Alerts
Older Travis County pages may still mention VINE. Texas has transitioned county-level victim notification to Texas IVSS-Counties, which can provide qualifying custody and court-event notifications.
Current Texas notification route
Texas IVSS-Counties launched as the newer county notification system and continues to provide notifications about county-jail custody changes and court events. Program management transferred to the Texas Office of the Governor on September 1, 2026.
The Travis County District Attorney now directs crime victims to IVSS Counties and lists 866-268-8959 for help.
Automated notifications are useful for status changes but are not an emergency-warning system or personal safety plan. Call 911 when there is an immediate danger.
