Start With the Right Missouri Inmate or Jail Search
Use the Missouri Department of Corrections Offender Search when a person may be in a Missouri state correctional facility or under DOC supervision. For a recent county arrest, local jail custody or booking photo, start with the sheriff or detention center for the county where the person was booked.
Records Search
Court, Criminal, Marriage, Divorce, Property
Missouri does not use one search tool for every stage of a criminal case. State DOC supervision, county jail custody, arrest records and court cases are different records maintained by different authorities. An arrest or booking photograph does not establish guilt or show the final case outcome.
Which Missouri Record Should You Search First?
The correct starting point depends on where the person is in the justice system. A county jail can hold someone shortly after arrest or while a local case is pending, while Missouri DOC manages people in state correctional institutions and people under certain forms of community supervision.
Person may be under Missouri DOC supervision
Search the official Missouri DOC Offender Search. It searches active offenders, including probationers and parolees, by first and last name and can also recognize aliases.
Missouri DOC Offender Search →Person was arrested recently
Identify the county where the person was booked and use that county’s official sheriff or detention-center search. Availability and displayed fields differ by county.
See the county-jail route →You specifically need a mugshot
Some Missouri counties publish photographs with active jail records. Others limit public photographs or treat arrest photographs separately from detention information.
Understand photo availability →You need charges, hearings or disposition
Move to Missouri Case.net. A jail entry documents custody; it should not replace the court record when the question concerns filed charges or what ultimately happened to the case.
Missouri Case.net →You need custody or court alerts
Missouri MOVANS provides notification options for qualifying local-jail custody and court events. Missouri DOC custody notifications use a separate DOC registration route.
See current MOVANS rules →The person is discharged from DOC supervision
The regular DOC search does not provide discharged offenders. Missouri DOC separately publishes Sunshine Law offender data that includes people currently or formerly under DOC supervision.
See historical-data options →How to Search the Missouri DOC Offender Database
Missouri DOC describes its public Offender Search as a tool for people actively supervised by the department. The search includes active incarcerated offenders, probationers and parolees, subject to stated safety, security and confidentiality exclusions.
Open the official Missouri DOC search
Use the web.mo.gov DOC application rather than a commercial inmate database. The search page displays its own data-current timestamp.
Enter the person’s first and last name
Missouri DOC says the search uses first and last names and includes aliases. Spell the name carefully and use additional identifiers when you later need to confirm a match.
Complete the verification image
The official search uses an image verification step before submitting a public search. Do not use automated workarounds or third-party copied results as a substitute.
Check whether the person is incarcerated or supervised in the community
A DOC search result does not by itself mean the person is physically inside a state prison. The search also includes active probationers and parolees.
Contact the responsible DOC office when status details are unclear
Missouri DOC says specific status questions should go to the institutional caseworker or the person’s probation and parole field officer rather than being inferred from general public-search information.
Missouri County Jail Rosters Are Separate From the State DOC Search
A person arrested by a local police department or sheriff may be held in a county detention facility without appearing as a state-prison inmate. For a recent booking, first determine the county responsible for the jail and locate that county’s official inmate-search page.
| Situation | Best starting source | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Recent local arrest | County sheriff or detention center | Local jail systems maintain current county-custody information. |
| Current Missouri state prisoner | Missouri DOC Offender Search | DOC manages Missouri state correctional institutions. |
| Active probation or parole supervision | Missouri DOC Offender Search | The public search also includes active probationers and parolees. |
| Booking photograph | Local jail or arresting agency | Photo availability and record ownership vary by jurisdiction. |
| Filed criminal case or hearing | Missouri Case.net | The court record answers a different question from the jail record. |
| Former DOC-supervised person | DOC Sunshine Law data or records process | The normal offender search excludes discharged offenders. |
Why Missouri Booking Photo Availability Changes by County
Missouri counties do not all present inmate photographs the same way. Local systems also distinguish between detention data, arrest reports, booking information and court records, so a photo shown with a jail entry should not be treated as a complete arrest or criminal-case record.
Greene County example
The Greene County Sheriff’s Office labels its public system “Inmate Booking Photos and Active Jail Population.” The county says the photographs are for people currently incarcerated at the time the database is queried.
Greene County also warns that inmate information can change quickly and that an arrest does not mean the person has been convicted.
Jackson County example
Jackson County’s inmate search contains selected detention information and photographs, but the county explicitly says the database is not a court record, arrest report or incident report.
Jackson County further instructs users seeking arrest reports, booking information or arrest photographs to contact the law-enforcement agency that made the arrest.
How to Find Recent Missouri Bookings Without Inventing a Statewide Archive
Searches such as “Missouri mugshots today” or “last 24 hours” usually need a local county source. The Missouri DOC search is not a statewide feed of every new county booking, and local databases may show only current detainees rather than a guaranteed historical period.
| What you know | Where to start | Next step |
|---|---|---|
| The person was arrested today | County where the arrest occurred | Check the sheriff or detention-center roster and arresting agency. |
| The person is currently in a county jail | County inmate search | Verify current custody, charges and identifiers shown by that system. |
| The person has already been released | Arresting agency + Case.net | Use records and the court case rather than expecting a live roster entry. |
| The person was sentenced to Missouri state custody | Missouri DOC Offender Search | Confirm current DOC status and assigned location where available. |
| You need the later legal result | Missouri Case.net | Review public case information instead of the original booking page. |
What to Do When a Missouri Inmate Search Returns No Result
A missing result can have several legitimate explanations. Use the search scope of the system you checked before deciding that the person has never been arrested, jailed or supervised.
| Problem | Possible explanation | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| No Missouri DOC match | The person may be in a county jail rather than DOC custody. | Identify the county and check its official detention search. |
| Former state offender missing | The regular DOC search excludes discharged offenders. | Review DOC Sunshine Law data or request appropriate records. |
| Name search fails | Spelling, alias or name variation may differ. | Check the spelling and known aliases; use a DOC number when available for follow-up. |
| County jail entry disappeared | The person may have been released or transferred. | Check Case.net, local records or the next custodial agency. |
| No booking photograph | The jurisdiction may not display one publicly. | Check the jail’s records guidance or contact the arresting agency where appropriate. |
| Search information seems outdated | Custody information can change quickly. | Contact the jail, facility, caseworker or responsible agency for time-sensitive status. |
Use Missouri Case.net for the Criminal Court Record
When the real question is what happened to a charge, switch from custody records to Missouri Case.net. Missouri Courts provides Case.net as the public route for eligible case information.
Search by litigant name
Case.net supports litigant-name searching. Compare the person and case carefully because a common name can return unrelated records.
Use a known court case number
A case number is more specific than a general name search and is useful when you already obtained it from a jail entry, court notice or other official record.
Check scheduled hearings and trials
Missouri Courts also provides scheduled-hearing and trial search options for eligible public cases.
Use Missouri MOVANS When You Need Status Alerts
Missouri’s victim-notification system can be more useful than repeatedly refreshing an inmate or mugshot page. Current registration routes differ depending on whether the person is supervised by a local jail or detention center or by the Missouri Department of Corrections.
Local jail custody and court events
Missouri says users seeking notification about court events or custody status for people supervised by a local jail or detention center can register or update their registration through VINELink.

Finding Missouri DOC Information Beyond the Active Offender Search
Missouri DOC’s regular public search is designed for active offenders and excludes discharged offenders. The department separately publishes a Sunshine Law offender-data file covering people who are or have been under DOC supervision.
Missouri DOC Sunshine Law offender data
Missouri DOC says the downloadable file includes current and former DOC-supervised people, with data extending as far back as 1974. The compressed file is updated nightly.
The file can contain multiple records for one person because records are organized around charges associated with supervision.
Understand the data limitations
Missouri DOC cautions that it does not guarantee the completeness or accuracy of its working data files and that some information is based on offender self-reporting.
Use the dataset as a public-record resource, not as a substitute for verifying a current custody status, official court disposition or certified record.
Contact Missouri DOC Constituent Services for Offender Search Help
Missouri DOC’s Constituent Services Office assists families, friends and members of the public with general offender information and department policies. For the best chance of identifying the correct record, provide specific identifiers rather than only a common name.
Information to provide
- Offender’s full name.
- Correct spelling of the name.
- DOC number when available.
- Date of birth when relevant and available.
- A clear explanation of what information you need.

Missouri Inmate Search and Booking Photo FAQs
What is the official Missouri state inmate search?
The Missouri Department of Corrections operates the official Offender Search at web.mo.gov/doc/offSearchWeb/. It searches active people supervised by Missouri DOC, including incarcerated offenders, probationers and parolees, subject to stated exclusions.
Does the Missouri DOC search include county jail inmates?
It should not be treated as a statewide county-jail roster. A person held after a local arrest may need to be searched through the responsible county sheriff or detention center instead.
Does Missouri have one statewide mugshot database?
Missouri’s public systems are divided by authority. Missouri DOC provides a state-supervision search, while counties such as Greene and Jackson maintain their own detention or booking-photo systems. Photo availability and record scope therefore vary by jurisdiction.
Why does the Missouri DOC search show probationers or parolees?
Missouri DOC states that its public search covers active offenders under department supervision, including probationers and parolees. A result therefore does not automatically mean the person is physically incarcerated in a state prison.
Can I find a discharged Missouri offender in the normal DOC search?
No. Missouri DOC specifically states that its regular Offender Search does not provide information on discharged offenders. Its Sunshine Law offender-data resources cover a broader historical population.
Where can I find recent Missouri booking photos?
Start with the official sheriff or detention-center website for the county where the person was booked. Some counties publish active booking photographs; others may require a records request or direct users to the arresting agency.
Where do I check the final result of a Missouri criminal case?
Use Missouri Case.net for eligible public court information. A jail record or booking photograph does not establish the final filed charge, conviction or case disposition.
What should I do if an inmate search result disappears?
The person may have been released, transferred or moved into another custody system. Check the relevant county records, Missouri DOC when appropriate and Case.net for the court case rather than assuming the original arrest never occurred.
Can I get notifications instead of checking the jail roster repeatedly?
Missouri MOVANS provides qualifying custody and court-event notification routes. Local jail and court registrations use VINELink, while Missouri DOC custody notifications are handled through Missouri DOC Victim Services under the current 2026 system.
Is a Missouri mugshot proof of guilt?
No. A booking photograph or jail entry documents part of an arrest or custody process. It does not establish guilt. Verify later charges and disposition through the relevant Missouri court record.
