Search Knox County Jail Mugshots, Inmates & Recent Bookings
The Knox County Sheriff’s Office provides two different public tools for this search: a 24 Hour Arrest List for people arrested within the past 24 hours and an Inmate Population search for people currently incarcerated in Knox County.
Records Search
Court, Criminal, Marriage, Divorce, Property
Use the 24-hour list when the arrest is very recent. Use the inmate population search when you need to know whether someone remains in custody. A booking photo, charge or jail entry documents part of the arrest process and does not establish guilt or show the final court outcome.
Which Knox County Jail Search Should You Use?
A search for Knox County jail mugshots can mean a recent booking, current custody, an older arrest or a later criminal case. Knox County provides different systems for those questions, so choosing the right source saves time and reduces the risk of misreading an old booking entry.
Was the person arrested recently?
Use the Knox County Sheriff’s Office 24 Hour Arrest List. KCSO describes this page as showing individuals arrested within the past 24 hours.
Is the person still incarcerated?
Use the separate Inmate Population page. It provides name search fields and an alphabetical directory for people currently listed in Knox County custody.
What happened after the arrest?
Move to the Knox County Criminal Court Clerk. The booking record can show an initial charge or court date, but the court docket is the better source for later proceedings.
How to Check the Knox County 24 Hour Arrest List
Unlike many counties that only publish a current jail roster, Knox County Sheriff maintains a dedicated recent-arrest page. That makes it the most direct official starting point when you are looking for a booking from roughly the previous 24 hours.
Open the official KCSO 24 Hour Arrest page
Use the Sheriff’s government-connected search at sheriff.knoxcountytn.gov rather than relying on a commercial mugshot directory or copied social-media post.
Look for the person’s booked name
Compare the full name and other identifying information displayed by the record. A similar name alone is not enough to conclude that a record belongs to the person you are researching.
Read the booking and charge fields carefully
The public list can display the document type, booked or served date, charge information, bond type, bond amount and court information. Treat those as booking-stage data, not as a final finding of guilt.
Check whether the person remains in custody
If you also need current incarceration status, move to the separate Inmate Population search. A recent arrest and current custody are different questions.
Follow the case through the court
Use the Knox County Criminal Court Clerk’s docket search when you need a later court date, filing or procedural status rather than the original booking information.
How to Search the Current Knox County Inmate Population
The inmate population page serves a different purpose from the 24-hour list. It is intended for people currently incarcerated within Knox County’s correctional system and includes first-name and last-name search fields as well as alphabetical browsing.
Search by name
Enter the first and last name when you know both. For common names, compare the available date of birth, IDN and custody information before deciding that the record is a match.
Browse alphabetically
The official page also provides A–Z browsing. This can help when you are uncertain about a first name or need to review records sharing the same last-name initial.
What Information Can Appear in a Knox County Booking Record?
The KCSO public jail pages can contain several fields in the same entry. Understanding what each field represents helps prevent a booking-stage record from being mistaken for a final criminal-history report.
| Record field | What it generally tells you | Important limitation |
|---|---|---|
| Name / date of birth | Identifying information associated with the jail record | Verify carefully when names are common or similar |
| IDN | KCSO inmate identification number shown with the record | It identifies a jail record, not the outcome of a criminal case |
| Document type | The type of process or custody document associated with the entry | Do not assume every listed document represents a new arrest |
| Booked / served date | Date associated with the listed booking or document service | Different documents within one inmate record can have different dates |
| Charge | Charge or legal description associated with the booking-stage record | The charge can later change, be dismissed or be resolved differently |
| Bond type / amount | Bond information available to KCSO at that stage | Bond can change after later judicial action |
| Court date / division / event | Available scheduled court information connected to the inmate entry | Use the court clerk to confirm the current docket |
| Booking photograph | A custody image when the official interface makes one available | A photo is not proof of guilt and should not be used as the sole identity check |
What to Do If You Cannot Find Someone in the Knox County Jail Search
A missing current inmate result does not necessarily prove that no arrest occurred. The person may have been released, transferred, booked under a different spelling or moved to another custody system.
Check both KCSO tools
If the arrest happened recently, check the 24 Hour Arrest List even if the person does not appear on the current inmate population page.
Move to records and court sources
Someone who has left jail may disappear from a current population list while the underlying arrest report and criminal case continue to exist.
Try the booked legal name
Check spelling, suffixes and other identifiers. Do not treat a non-match caused by a name variation as proof that the person was never booked.
Use Tennessee FOIL
If the person moved into Tennessee Department of Correction custody or supervision, county-jail search tools are no longer the best primary source.
Call Inmate Services
KCSO directs users with questions about its public inmate information to Inmate Services at 865-281-6700.
Search the criminal docket
A court case can continue after release from jail. Search the Knox County docket using the person’s name and an appropriate date range.
Knox County Jail and Detention Facilities
The Knox County Sheriff’s Office Corrections Division operates multiple facilities. The facility associated with a person’s custody may therefore differ from the location someone casually calls “the Knox County jail.”

How to Get a Knox County Sheriff’s Incident Report
A jail booking entry and an incident report are different records. KCSO Support Services handles records and reports related to Sheriff’s Office incidents and provides both online and in-person report options.
Online incident-report request
KCSO provides an online incident-report request form. Its form states that public inspection of KCSO reports is available to Tennessee residents and asks the requester to verify Tennessee residency.
In-person copies
KCSO Support Services currently says in-person incident-report copies are available Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., excluding holidays. The published copy charge is 15 cents per page, and KCSO asks users to allow three working days for staff to produce the copy.
Bring the case number when possible. If you do not know it, KCSO asks for details such as the names associated with the case, date or time, location and nature of the incident.
Search Knox County Criminal Court Dates and Case Records
The Knox County Criminal Court Clerk is the appropriate next stop when you need to follow a criminal matter beyond the jail entry. Its online docket search covers daily dockets for courts hearing criminal, traffic and county-ordinance cases.
Find a court date online
The searchable docket lets users select a date range and then search by a person’s name or court division. Use it to confirm an upcoming court event rather than relying only on the date displayed in an older jail entry.

Criminal / General Sessions – Criminal: 865-215-2375.
The Clerk currently lists office hours as Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Current published court-copy fees
The Criminal Court Clerk currently lists hardcopy fees at 50 cents per page and an additional $5 charge for certified copies. Electronic copies are listed as having no fee unless the size or volume of the request creates an additional charge.
Use Tennessee FOIL for State Felony Custody or Supervision
The Tennessee Department of Correction’s Felony Offender Information Lookup, commonly called FOIL, is not a replacement for the Knox County 24-hour arrest or inmate-population pages. It serves a different stage of the system.
What FOIL can show
TDOC says FOIL contains information about felony offenders who are currently or formerly in TDOC custody or under TDOC supervision. Depending on the record, information can include a photograph, custody or supervision status, location, offense, sentence information, parole-hearing status and release information.
Need Notification When Custody Status Changes?
KCSO references Tennessee’s SAVIN/VINE service for custody notifications, and Tennessee Department of Correction also directs victims and families to VINELink for automated notifications.
Victim and family notification option
The KCSO site lists the Tennessee SAVIN/VINE toll-free number as 888-868-4631. VINELink can be used for qualifying custody-status notifications instead of repeatedly refreshing a jail roster.

A Knox County Mugshot Is Not a Conviction Record
Booking information is public-record information from an early stage of the criminal-justice process. Charges can be modified, dismissed, resolved through diversion or result in a different disposition after the person enters court.
- Do not describe a person as guilty based only on a mugshot or arrest record.
- Verify identity when names are similar.
- Use the current court record before repeating an old allegation as though it were still unresolved.
- Do not use this informational website as a substitute for a legally compliant employment, housing, credit or other regulated background report.
- Respect sealed, expunged and otherwise nonpublic information.
