Important: A booking photograph is not proof of guilt. Horry County warns that its booking information may contain inaccuracies. Confirm identity, charge changes, present custody and court outcomes with the responsible government office.
For J. Reuben Long inmate mugshots, the best starting point is Horry County Government’s Bookings & Releases application. It covers individuals booked at the J. Reuben Long Detention Center in Conway. Search by last name or a relevant booking or release date, then check the information shown for the matching record. Photographs are available only when the county’s public system displays them.
The detention center is operated under the Horry County Sheriff’s Office. An arrest may have been made by Horry County Police, Myrtle Beach Police, North Myrtle Beach Police or another agency. The arresting department, jail and court may each maintain a different part of the record.
How to find J. Reuben Long inmate mugshots
Use the county’s original service rather than relying on an undated screenshot from a mugshot aggregator. The booking application shows a data-collection timestamp, which is important because the displayed custody information may not reflect a change that happened minutes ago.
- Open Horry County’s booking search.
Visit the official Bookings & Releases page. If the form does not load, allow JavaScript for the county application or follow the link from the county’s Bookings & Releases directory page.
- Search by the last name or date.
Enter the surname when known; use the booking-date or release-date field when searching a particular incident. Do not assume the application provides a permanent “last 30 days” photo gallery.
- Match the full booking information.
Compare the person’s name, available identifiers and dates. A similar name or a photograph alone does not establish identity.
- Check whether a release is recorded.
A booking entry can remain available after a release. Do not describe a person as presently incarcerated based only on an older booking result.
- Use the court’s Public Index when needed.
For hearings, filed charges and later case events, open the Horry County Public Index. A booking number and a court case number may be different.
- Call Booking for time-sensitive questions.
The Sheriff’s Office lists J. Reuben Long Booking at 843-915-6911. Call when the online status is unclear and the question concerns a new arrival, release or bond.
Looking for a photo from today? Use the date of the actual booking, not merely today’s date. A late-night arrest can lead to intake on the following calendar day. If the county does not show a photograph in the public entry, the entry does not guarantee that the photo can be obtained or released.
What the jail booking result can tell you
J. Reuben Long processes local detention intake. Horry County’s official budget materials explain that people booked at the center are fingerprinted and photographed as part of intake, but the county’s public website does not promise to display every photograph. The publicly displayed record and the complete internal detention file are not identical.
| Field | Useful meaning | Not proof of |
|---|---|---|
| Booking photo | Image associated with an intake, if publicly displayed | Guilt, conviction or current custody |
| Booking date | When jail intake was recorded | Exact offense time or court filing date |
| Arresting agency | Department connected to the arrest | Which agency maintains every later case document |
| Initial charge | Allegation listed during booking | Final prosecuted charge or disposition |
| Bond amount or status | Reported bond information at a point in time | That payment has cleared or release is immediate |
| Release date | Recorded exit from that custody system | Dismissal, acquittal or case closure |
When the accuracy of an arrest record matters, check the jail’s information against the responsible arresting agency and court. Horry County expressly disclaims the accuracy of every booking detail; do not repeat unsupported allegations as established facts.
Current inmates, past releases and court records
Is the person still at J. Reuben Long?
Look for release information in the county application and check its data-collection timestamp. If there is no matching entry, the person may be newly booked, already released, transferred or detained by a different facility. Use the Booking phone number for an urgent status question.
What happened in court?
Horry County belongs to South Carolina’s Fifteenth Judicial Circuit. The South Carolina Public Index for Horry County is the right follow-up for publicly available circuit-court case information. Search using a name or case number, then read the case activity and recorded disposition rather than treating a booking allegation as a conviction.
The Horry County Clerk of Court lists its main Conway office at 1301 Second Avenue, telephone 843-915-5080, and General Sessions at 843-915-5084. Records may not appear immediately, and protected or sealed matters may be unavailable to the public.
Transferred to South Carolina state prison?
Use the South Carolina Department of Corrections inmate search only when state-prison custody applies. SCDC says its search reflects qualifying sentenced inmates as of midnight the previous day; it does not cover the entire J. Reuben Long population, people sentenced only to county facilities or those already released from SCDC.
Bond hearings, payments and release questions
Horry County’s detention-center Magistrate’s Office handles eligible bond matters. The county lists ordinary hearing times around 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m., but advises that these can vary with the magistrate’s schedule. Call 843-915-5145 before traveling for a hearing.
Its published office hours are Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m., and weekends and holidays, 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. Bond hearings for certain serious charges must be handled in Circuit Court rather than by a magistrate. Victim notification may also affect hearing scheduling.
Paying an authorized bond
The official bond-information page says cash or surety bonds are posted at the Magistrate’s Office. Accepted methods include cash, money orders and major credit cards; personal checks are not accepted. Cash payments require the exact amount.
Scam warning: The Sheriff’s Office says it will not collect bond payments over the phone. Do not pay someone who calls claiming a person will be released immediately if you send money. Confirm arrangements with the Magistrate’s Office or Booking at 843-915-6911.
Release times are not guaranteed by a mugshot entry
Posting bond or receiving a release order does not provide a reliable public promise of the exact time someone will leave the facility. Other holds, processing and court conditions may apply. For a sentenced inmate, Horry County’s release-information page explains sentence calculations, possible good-time/work credits and transportation after release.
Visiting a person at J. Reuben Long Detention Center
Visits are conducted by video, including visits arranged on-site. Horry County transitioned inmate communications to NCIC Correctional Services beginning November 12, 2025. Use the current county instructions rather than older pages referring visitors to another provider.
| Days | Times | Booking notes |
|---|---|---|
| Monday–Saturday | 8:20–10:50 a.m. and 1:00–4:10 p.m. | Schedule visits in advance after approval |
| Tuesday and Thursday | Additional 6:15–8:15 p.m. window | Availability and approval still apply |
| On-site video | Within approved visit windows | Free, advance scheduling required |
| Remote video | Approved scheduled slot | At least 24 hours ahead; $0.30 per minute |
The facility currently allows four visits per inmate per week in total, counting on-site and remote sessions together. A prospective visitor must create an NCIC account, request visitor authorization, wait for approval, then schedule the appointment. Remote visits can be conducted using a computer, tablet or phone.
What visitors should know
- Wear appropriate clothing. The jail prohibits several types of revealing or inappropriate attire.
- Video visits are monitored and recorded.
- Taking screenshots, photographs, video or audio recordings of visits and reposting them to social media is prohibited.
- Staff can suspend or terminate visits for rules violations.
- For attorney visits, call the main detention number and ask about coordinating with the movement center.
Read the full official J. Reuben Long visitation policy before booking. The Sheriff’s Office also lists the visitation phone line as 843-915-6860.
Inmate phone calls, messages and mailing addresses
NCIC electronic messages
The detention center uses NCIC for inmate communications. Horry County’s current communications page lists electronic letters at $0.25 per message and picture or document messages at $0.35 per attachment. Check the vendor’s current charges before paying. General-population inmates have access to outgoing collect or debit calls; calls may be monitored and recorded.
Ordinary personal letters
Physical personal mail goes to a Texas processing center for scanning, not directly to the detention-center street address. Include the inmate’s name, account number and your return address:
Ordinary mail scanning address Inmate Name / Account Number J Reuben Long Detention Center PO Box 591 Longview, TX 75606
Horry County limits ordinary mail sent there to five pages and one photograph per mailing. Pages must be written on the front only and meet the posted size requirements. Items sent to the scanning center are destroyed after processing rather than returned. Do not mail irreplaceable originals.
Legal and medical correspondence
Do not send confidential legal or medical mail to the Texas scanning center. The county instructs senders to use the detention center’s Conway address and follow its separate mail rules for those categories. Verify the requirements with the facility before sending sensitive documents.
How to deposit money for an inmate
Horry County identifies McDaniel Supply Company as its commissary provider. The detention center offers several ways to fund an inmate account, but payment availability and third-party service charges should be checked on the county deposit-funds page.
- Online: use the McDaniel Supply deposit link reached from the county’s official page. Service fees may apply.
- Lobby kiosk: the detention-center lobby has a kiosk; the county lists a $3 service fee.
- By mail: qualifying U.S. Postal Service money orders and IRS checks may be addressed to the inmate, attention Cashier’s Office, at 4150 J. Reuben Long Avenue, Conway, SC 29526.
- Western Union: the county provides specific payee and account-number instructions on its deposit page. Confirm the details there before making a transfer.
Do not send cash through the mail. Confirm the inmate’s full name and account information before paying; do not guess an inmate account number from a mugshot listing.
When commissary orders are processed
General-population commissary orders are normally processed on Monday and Thursday mornings, with deliveries Tuesday and Friday. The inmate must have sufficient funds before the processing cutoff. Commissary privileges and available items differ for maximum-security housing. See the official commissary rules for details, including indigent-inmate provisions.
No mugshot, no inmate result or incorrect information?
Check the right records system
Horry County Police is a separate agency from the Sheriff’s Office. Myrtle Beach Police and North Myrtle Beach Police also handle arrests in their jurisdictions. If the arresting agency created the incident report, request that report there, not automatically from the jail. If the issue concerns custody, use the J. Reuben Long booking staff; if it concerns what happened in court, use the Public Index or court clerk.
Search the release date
Someone released after an overnight booking may no longer appear in a view focused on current detention. Search an appropriate release date in the county application. A case can still be pending after jail release.
Check for a transfer
People may be transferred to another county, state or federal system. The South Carolina Department of Corrections lookup is not a complete county-jail archive, and a blank SCDC result should not be treated as evidence that no Horry County arrest occurred.
Use the official public-records process
If you need a booking photograph not shown online or a formal detention record, check with the Sheriff’s Office about custody of the record, legal access and any necessary request. Its Public Information Office explains South Carolina Freedom of Information Act requests. Access and redaction rules vary by record; do not assume every intake photo is publicly releasable.
Crime-victim release notifications
If your priority is an offender’s release rather than a photograph, Horry County provides South Carolina SAVIN victim notifications. The county says the system can send release alerts by phone, text or email to registered users. For victim-assistance questions, contact J. Reuben Long Victim Services at 843-915-6915.
