Find Gaston County Mugshots, Bookings & Jail Records
For a Gaston County mugshot or recent jail booking, start with the current Gaston County Inmate Inquiry linked by the Sheriff’s Office. Use North Carolina eCourts or the Gaston County Clerk of Superior Court when you need the criminal case, disposition or a certified court-record search.
Records Search
Court, Criminal, Marriage, Divorce, Property
Important: a booking photograph, arrest entry or jail record does not prove guilt. The Sheriff’s own disclaimer says online information is not guaranteed and directs users to the Clerk of Court for the actual charge.
Which Gaston County record source should you use?
“Mugshot,” “inmate record,” “police report,” “criminal case” and “background check” describe different records. Starting with the source that actually owns the information avoids unnecessary paid people-search sites and prevents a jail record from being mistaken for the final court outcome.
Gaston County Inmate Inquiry
Use the current Sheriff-linked search for recent jail and custody information. The replacement system can search by name, Subject Number, Booking Number, custody status, booking-date range and housing facility.
Search current inmate records →North Carolina eCourts
Use eCourts Portal for public case activity after an arrest. The court record, not the mugshot, is the better source for filed charges, hearings and later case developments.
Open eCourts Portal →Clerk of Superior Court
For a certified name-based search of Gaston County court records, use the North Carolina Judicial Branch process with Form AOC-CR-314. The currently published fee is $25.
Certified background-check guidance →Gaston County Police
If Gaston County Police created the incident or investigative record, contact that department’s Records Unit. The jail database is not a substitute for the arresting agency’s report.
Gaston County Police →Gastonia Police
If Gastonia Police handled the incident, use the city’s official crime-report database or Records office rather than expecting the Sheriff’s inmate search to contain the complete police report.
Search Gastonia crime reports →NC Adult Correction
If the person has moved from county detention into state prison, probation or parole supervision, switch to the North Carolina Department of Adult Correction offender search.
NC offender-search options →How to search Gaston County mugshots and booking records
The old Gaston County inmate portal should no longer be used as the primary search. That page now states that it is unsupported and sends visitors to a replacement Inmate Inquiry. The instructions below match the current search interface rather than the outdated “last name required” workflow from the former article.
Open the current Inmate Inquiry
Use the replacement Gaston County Inmate Inquiry connected to the Sheriff’s Office rather than bookmarking the retired New World portal.
Choose the most useful search field
The current interface provides fields for Name, Subject Number, Booking Number, In Custody, Booking From Date, Booking To Date and Housing Facility. Use the information you actually know rather than guessing extra identifiers.
Confirm the correct individual
Compare available identifiers, dates and custody information before relying on a same-name result. Names alone can match more than one person.
Move to court records for the criminal case
If you need filed charges, hearings or later disposition information, use North Carolina eCourts or contact the Gaston County Clerk of Superior Court.
Ask the arresting agency for its report
A jail booking and a police incident report are different records. Contact Gaston County Police, Gastonia Police or the other arresting agency when you need the agency-held report.
Check state custody when appropriate
If the person has left county detention for North Carolina prison, probation or parole supervision, use the state Department of Adult Correction search instead.
Do not rely on the old 2–12 hour claim. The previous article gave a fixed estimate for when a new booking would appear. I did not find a current Sheriff source that publishes or guarantees that posting window, so the rebuilt article does not present it as fact.
The old Gaston County inmate portal has been retired
The former Gaston County Sheriff Online Inmate Database remains reachable, but it now displays a notice that the page is no longer supported and links to the new search. That makes screenshots and step-by-step instructions based on the former interface obsolete.
The retired page also states that its inmate search covered bookings from the current year and the two previous years. The replacement search screen does not display that same retention statement, so the older three-year wording should be treated as legacy portal guidance, not as a guaranteed current search-retention rule.
Best practice for an older arrest: search the current inmate system first, then use eCourts or contact the Clerk when the booking is no longer available online. Court records and jail-search retention are separate issues.
What does a Gaston County booking record actually establish?
A booking record records jail-processing information connected with an arrest or detention. It can help identify the person, booking event and custody record, but it should not be treated as proof that the person committed the alleged offense.
The Gaston County Sheriff’s published disclaimer says the county does not warrant that all online information is accurate or complete. It also specifically tells users to contact the Gaston County Clerk of Court for a copy of the actual charge.
| Record | Best use | Do not assume |
|---|---|---|
| Mugshot / booking photo | Identifying a photograph associated with jail processing when publicly available. | That the person was convicted or that the case ended in guilt. |
| Booking or inmate entry | Checking jail processing, custody and identifiers. | That every listed booking allegation remained the final filed charge. |
| Police report | Reviewing the incident information documented by the investigating or arresting agency. | That the report itself is a court judgment. |
| eCourts case | Following publicly available court filings and case activity. | That an online docket is a certified background check. |
| Certified Clerk search | Obtaining a certified name-based search of court records in Gaston County. | That a name-only search uniquely identifies every person with that name. |
What if a Gaston County mugshot or inmate record is not found?
A missing search result does not automatically mean an arrest never occurred. First identify what kind of information you are trying to verify, then move to the appropriate official source.
| Problem | Possible explanation | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| No matching name | The record may use a different spelling, middle name or identifier. | Try a broader name search or use a known Subject Number or Booking Number. |
| Using an old bookmark | The former Gaston inmate portal is no longer supported. | Use the current New World Inmate Inquiry linked in this guide. |
| Booking is older | The old portal published a limited booking window and the new screen does not promise unlimited historical coverage. | Search eCourts or contact the Sheriff/Clerk depending on the record needed. |
| Person is no longer in county jail | Release or transfer can change where custody information is found. | Check court records, NC SAVAN/VINE, or NC Adult Correction when state custody is possible. |
| Need the actual police report | The inmate system is a jail source, not the arresting agency’s complete incident file. | Contact the law-enforcement agency that created the report. |
| Online information appears wrong | The Sheriff expressly warns that its online information is not guaranteed to be complete or accurate. | Submit the accuracy concern in writing to the Jail Administrative Office or verify the charge through the Clerk. |
| Record may be sealed or expunged | Some legally restricted information is not publicly available. | Do not attempt to bypass restrictions. Use the court or qualified legal counsel for a case-specific question. |
Accuracy complaints: the Sheriff’s disclaimer directs written complaints about inmate-database accuracy to the Jail Administrative Office, Gaston County Sheriff, P.O. Box 1578, Gastonia, NC 28053.
Gaston County Jail and detention information
Gaston County Jail is operated by the Gaston County Sheriff’s Office at 425 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Way, Gastonia, NC 28052. The Sheriff’s detention information describes the main jail and a separate Jail Annex used for different detention populations and programs.
The Sheriff currently lists a total main-jail bed capacity of 488 with an operating capacity of 440. The Annex has a total bed capacity of 176 with an operating capacity of 159. Those capacity figures describe the facilities; they should not be interpreted as the number of people currently detained on a particular day.
The Sheriff also states that the jail has on-site medical staff available 24 hours a day for people housed in the jail and annex.
How to check the Gaston County court case after an arrest
Use North Carolina eCourts when you need public court information rather than only the jail entry. The court system is the appropriate next source for determining what was filed in court and what later happened in the case.
North Carolina eCourts Portal
Search public court information online. Use case identifiers or party information carefully and verify that the result is from the correct county and person.
Open eCourts Portal →Gaston County Courthouse
The courthouse is at 325 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Way, Gastonia, NC 28052. Use the Clerk of Superior Court when you need official copies, a certified search or help locating a court record.
Gaston County courts →Need a certified Gaston County criminal-record search?
A mugshot lookup is not a certified background check. The North Carolina Judicial Branch provides a separate certified name-based criminal-record search through the Clerk of Superior Court for one county at a time.
The current process uses Form AOC-CR-314 and carries a published fee of $25. For mailed requests, the Judicial Branch lists money order or certified check and says personal checks are not accepted. In-person requests can currently be paid by credit card, cash, money order or certified check.
Name-search limitation: a certified county search is name based. A same-name result may belong to another person, while a no-result search may not capture a record under a different name. Treat identity matching carefully.
Police reports: Gaston County Police and Gastonia Police are different agencies
Do not assume that every arrest in Gaston County was made by the Gaston County Police Department or the City of Gastonia Police Department. Multiple law-enforcement agencies operate in the county. The agency that created the incident or arrest report is generally the best source for that agency-held document.

Gastonia Police Department
The city operates a separate online Crime Report Database. Its current search supports a case number or a combination of date and last name, with additional location fields available.
Search Gastonia reports →Gastonia’s current report portal says crime reports are generally available 3–5 business days after the crime occurs. If a report is not found after that period, it directs users to Records at 704-866-6702. Some sensitive report categories are available only by contacting Records.
Do not confuse report timing with jail-booking timing. The 3–5 business-day statement applies to the Gastonia Police crime-report database. It is not a published Gaston County Jail mugshot-posting guarantee.
NC SAVAN/VINE for custody status and victim notifications
The Gaston County Sheriff’s Office points users to North Carolina SAVAN/VINE for custody-status information and automated offender notifications. The service is designed to help victims and other concerned users receive updates about events such as release, transfer or escape.
The Sheriff lists VINE as available around the clock without charge by telephone, internet or email. For information concerning a specific inmate, the published VINE number is 1-800-247-9658.
VINE can provide information such as charges, housing and court dates and can support release notifications. A notification system should not replace a personal safety plan or direct communication with law enforcement when there is an immediate safety concern.
Read Gaston County VINE guidance →Gaston County Jail visitation
The Sheriff handles inmate visitation through video visitation and publishes different schedules for the Main Jail, Annex, and closed or protective custody. Because schedules can be changed for holidays, security or facility reasons, check the current Sheriff page before traveling.
| Housing group | On-site visitation | Remote visitation |
|---|---|---|
| Main Jail general population | Monday–Thursday, 1:05–3:35 p.m. and 5:05–8:00 p.m. | Monday–Sunday, 1:05–3:35 p.m. and 5:05–8:00 p.m. |
| Annex general population | Monday–Thursday, 1:05–9:05 p.m. | Monday–Sunday, 1:05–9:05 p.m. |
| Closed / protective custody | Monday–Thursday, 1:05–3:35 p.m. and 5:05–8:00 p.m. | On-site only according to the Sheriff’s detailed page. |
Visits must generally be scheduled the day before the appointment or up to two weeks in advance. The Sheriff lists visits as 25 minutes long and requires visitors to have valid government-issued photo identification. Anyone younger than 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
The detailed page says most inmates receive one visit per week, while inmate workers may receive two on-site visits. On-site visits are limited to four visitors per visit, with only two people allowed in the visitation area at one time.
Check the detailed visitation page before visiting. Different Sheriff pages can summarize visitation differently. The detailed visitation page is the more specific source for housing-based schedules, but schedules remain subject to change.
For ADA assistance or another special accommodation, the Sheriff currently lists 704-866-3550 Monday through Thursday from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. After hours, weekends and holidays, the page directs users to the supervisor on duty at 704-869-6869.
Current visitation rules →How to send inmate mail, add funds and handle phone calls
Non-legal inmate mail
Since March 1, 2024, the Sheriff says non-legal correspondence is scanned and delivered electronically to inmate tablets. This is a major change from the mailing address shown in the previous USA-Mugshots article.
Gaston County Jail
Inmate Name, Inmate Identifier
P.O. Box 247
Phoenix, MD 21131
The return address must contain the sender’s full first and last name; the Sheriff says initials are not sufficient. Mail that does not follow the required addressing format can be returned.
If you do not know the inmate identifier, the Sheriff says it appears in the inmate-search profile as the Global Subject Number. Jail Information can also provide assistance Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at 704-869-6868.
Adding money
The Sheriff currently uses Team Three for inmate financial transactions. Money can be added at approved kiosks in the main Sheriff’s Office lobby and Jail Annex lobby or online through the Team Three/InmateCanteen service.
Open Team Three / InmateCanteen →Inmate telephone service
The Sheriff identifies ICSolutions as the inmate telephone provider. Calls are subject to jail rules and monitoring. For account or service questions, use the provider information linked from the Sheriff’s inmate-information pages rather than relying on an old third-party instruction page.
Official inmate phone information →If the person has moved into North Carolina state custody
The Gaston County Inmate Inquiry is a county-jail source. It should not be used to search for someone who has moved into North Carolina state prison, probation or parole supervision.
The North Carolina Department of Adult Correction provides an Offender Public Information Search by name or offender ID and says the system contains current information on state prison offenders, probationers and parolees plus historical correctional information dating back to 1972.
Important distinction: NC Adult Correction expressly states that its database does not include county-jail information. Use the Gaston County inmate system for county custody and the state system for state correctional records.
Expunction and restricted arrest records in North Carolina
North Carolina law provides different expunction procedures depending on the type and outcome of the case. An arrest being old, dismissed or no longer visible in a jail database does not by itself prove that a court record has been expunged.
The North Carolina Judicial Branch publishes current expunction forms and guidance. When a petition is required, it is generally handled through the Clerk in the county where the person was charged or convicted, subject to the applicable statute and procedure.
This page cannot determine whether a particular arrest or conviction qualifies for expunction. For a case-specific legal decision, review the current Judicial Branch guidance and consider qualified North Carolina legal advice.

Gaston County mugshots, bookings and jail records FAQ
Where can I find official Gaston County mugshots and booking records?
Use the current Gaston County Inmate Inquiry linked from the Sheriff’s Office. The replacement search supports name, Subject Number, Booking Number, in-custody status, booking date range and housing-facility fields.
Is the old Gaston County inmate-search portal still supported?
No. The former portal now states that it is no longer supported and points users to the current Inmate Inquiry. Use the replacement search rather than relying on old portal instructions.
How far back can I search Gaston County bookings online?
The retired portal stated that its inmate search included the current year and two previous years. The current replacement search does not display that same coverage statement on its search screen, so treat the old three-year wording as legacy guidance rather than a guaranteed current retention period.
Does a Gaston County mugshot prove someone was convicted?
No. A booking photograph or jail record reflects an arrest or detention event, not a conviction. The Sheriff’s disclaimer directs users to the Gaston County Clerk of Court for the actual charge, and court records should be used for later case activity.
How do I get a certified Gaston County criminal record search?
The North Carolina Judicial Branch provides a certified name-based single-county search through the Clerk of Superior Court using Form AOC-CR-314. The currently published fee is $25.
Where do I check what happened in court after an arrest?
Use North Carolina eCourts Portal for public case information and the Gaston County Clerk of Superior Court when you need official or certified court records.
How do I get a Gastonia Police crime report?
The Gastonia Police online report database allows searches by case number or by date and last name. The city says reports are generally available three to five business days after the crime occurs; if a report is still missing, call Records at 704-866-6702.
How do I visit someone in Gaston County Jail?
The Sheriff’s detailed visitation page lists video visitation and different schedules for the Main Jail, Annex, and closed or protective custody. Visits must generally be scheduled in advance, and visitors need valid government-issued photo identification.
How do I send mail or money to a Gaston County inmate?
Non-legal mail is scanned and delivered electronically to inmate tablets and must use the Sheriff’s published Phoenix, Maryland mailing address with the inmate name and identifier. Funds can be added through approved kiosks or the Team Three/InmateCanteen service.
What if the person is no longer in Gaston County Jail?
If the person has moved into North Carolina state prison, probation or parole supervision, use the Department of Adult Correction Offender Public Information Search. That state database does not contain county-jail information.
Record-use notice: USA-Mugshots.com is an independent informational website and is not affiliated with the Gaston County Sheriff’s Office, Gaston County Police Department, Gastonia Police Department, Gaston County courts, North Carolina Judicial Branch or North Carolina Department of Adult Correction.
