Dallas County Jail Mugshots, Inmate Lookup & Booking Records
For a person who is currently in Dallas County jail custody, start with the official Dallas County Jail Lookup. It supports name, book-in number and case-number searches and can show the booking photo, booking details, charges and bond information when available.
Records Search
Court, Criminal, Marriage, Divorce, Property
If the person has already been released: the Sheriff’s Public Information Officer page gives a separate booking-photo request route. For the criminal case or final disposition, use Dallas County court records rather than treating a jail booking as the final legal result.
Which Dallas County record source should you use?
Dallas County separates jail custody, booking photographs, criminal court cases and certified records. Choosing the right system matters because a jail record answers a different question from a court disposition or statewide criminal-history search.
Dallas County Jail Lookup
Use the county Jail Lookup when the person is in current Dallas County custody. The live search supports name, book-in number and case-number routes.
Search Jail Lookup →Sheriff Public Information Officer
The Sheriff’s PIO page says current-custody photos can be accessed through Jail Lookup. If the person is no longer in custody, the page instructs requesters to email identifying details that help narrow the photo search.
See booking-photo request guidance →Dallas County Case Information
Use the county’s felony and misdemeanor court search for public case history. The online service includes Dallas County criminal case information dating back to 1975.
Search criminal cases →District Clerk
The District Clerk is the custodian for Dallas County felony courts and the Magistrate Court in the Lew Sterrett Justice Center. Use the Felony Records Desk for records not available online, searches and certification.
Felony records instructions →County Clerk
Misdemeanor record services are handled by the Dallas County Clerk rather than the District Clerk. Central Records provides request routes and certified-copy guidance.
Misdemeanor records →TDCJ Offender Search
If the person has moved from the county jail into Texas Department of Criminal Justice custody, use TDCJ rather than repeatedly checking a local Dallas jail result.
Search TDCJ →Dallas County jail records come from a multi-facility detention system
The Dallas County Sheriff’s Office says it operates four active detention facilities with combined capacity for more than 7,100 inmates. The Lew Sterrett Justice Center complex at 111 West Commerce Street includes the North Tower, West Tower and Suzanne L. Kays facilities.
A Jail Lookup result can identify the jail location for a particular booking when that field is populated. Do not assume every inmate is housed in the same tower, and do not use the Frank Crowley Courts Building address as an inmate-mail address.
Jail information line: for time-sensitive questions such as current custody, release status, housing or whether bond has posted, Dallas County publishes 214-761-9025 for Jail/Inmate Information.
How to search Dallas County jail mugshots and booking records
The official Jail Lookup provides three search paths: name, book-in number and case number. In the current name-search form, last name, first name, race and sex are marked as required; date of birth is optional.
Open the official Dallas County Jail Lookup
Use the Dallas County government search rather than beginning with a copied mugshot gallery or a paid people-search page.
Choose the search method you can complete accurately
Use name search when you have the required identity fields. If you know the book-in number or case number, use the corresponding search tab instead of guessing at personal details.
Verify the booking before relying on it
Compare the name, date of birth when shown, booking number, booking date and other available identifiers. A same-name match alone is not enough to establish identity.
Read charges and bond as time-sensitive information
The booking detail can show charges, holds and bond amounts. Because those details can change after judicial action, verify a consequential bond or release decision with Dallas County rather than relying on an old screenshot.
Use the warrant or case information to move into court records
The jail detail can show warrant information. Dallas County itself directs users to the county criminal court search for additional case information.
Request official copies from the correct clerk
For felony records, use the District Clerk. For misdemeanor criminal records, use the County Clerk. An online jail or court screen is not a substitute for a certified copy when certification is actually required.
What can a Dallas County Jail Lookup record show?
A current record detail can include a booking photograph plus personal and booking information. The exact fields depend on the record, so some entries may be more complete than others.
| Jail record field | What it helps answer | What it does not prove |
|---|---|---|
| Booking photo | Shows the jail-intake image associated with the displayed booking when publicly available. | Guilt or conviction. |
| Book-in number / booking date | Identifies the jail booking and when it was recorded. | The final court outcome. |
| Jail / tank location | Can identify current housing information when populated. | That the location will remain unchanged. |
| Charges and holds | Shows the jail-side charge or hold information currently associated with the record. | That every listed booking charge was later filed or resulted in conviction. |
| Bond amount | Shows the bond information reflected by the current booking record. | That the amount will remain unchanged after later judicial action. |
| Warrant / case information | Provides an identifier that can help connect the booking to Dallas County court records. | The complete court file by itself. |
How to request a Dallas County booking photo after release
The Sheriff’s Public Information Officer page makes an important distinction: if the person is still in Dallas County jail custody, use Jail Lookup. If the person is no longer in custody, the PIO page instructs requesters to email information such as the person’s name, date of birth and charges so staff can narrow the search.
Use Jail Lookup
Start with the live county search. This is the Sheriff’s stated route for a current inmate booking photograph.
Open Jail Lookup →Use Sheriff PIO guidance
The PIO page lists [email protected] as its email contact and asks for enough identifying information to narrow a released-person booking-photo search.
Open PIO page →Do not assume every historical mugshot is instantly available online. Jail Lookup is primarily useful for the current county jail record. A released-person photo can require a separate request, and disclosure may be subject to Texas law and applicable exceptions.
What if the Dallas County inmate or mugshot is not found?
A missing result does not by itself establish that the person was never arrested. Use the next source based on the specific problem.
| Problem | Possible explanation | What to do next |
|---|---|---|
| Name search cannot be completed confidently | The live form currently requires race and sex in addition to first and last name. | Do not guess identity fields. Use a known book-in or case number, or call Jail/Inmate Information. |
| Person may have been released | The current jail search may no longer be the best source for an older booking photo. | Use the Sheriff PIO booking-photo request guidance and check the Dallas County criminal case search. |
| Booking exists but later result is unclear | Jail and court systems answer different questions. | Search Dallas County felony/misdemeanor court information for the case history and disposition. |
| Person moved to Texas state custody | Dallas County jail and TDCJ are separate custody systems. | Use TDCJ Offender Search. |
| Record is sealed or confidential | Certain court records are not available online because of sealing orders or law. | Do not try to bypass access restrictions; contact the appropriate clerk if you have a lawful basis for the request. |
| Online lookup is unavailable | The county search can be temporarily inaccessible. | Use the Sheriff’s Inmate Information page or call 214-761-9025. |
Dallas County bond and release information
Dallas County says its Bond Division approves and accepts bonds posted in the county, excluding municipal courts. The Sheriff publishes 214-653-2755 for Bond Administration.
For cash bonds, the Sheriff currently accepts cash, cashier’s check or money order made payable to Dallas County. Debit and credit cards are not accepted for posting a cash bond. Cashier’s checks and money orders must meet the county’s published DFW-area financial-institution and proof-of-purchase requirements.
Bond-scam warning: Dallas County tells families to use a legitimate bail bond company or pay at the county Bond Desk in person and specifically warns against scam payment methods such as CashApp.
For an inmate’s release date, whether bond has posted, or related current-custody questions, the Sheriff’s attorney-visitation guidance directs non-attorney callers to Jail Information at 214-761-9025.
Check the criminal court case after the jail booking
Dallas County provides a combined Felony and Misdemeanor Courts Case Information search. County guidance says the criminal case-history service includes cases dating back to 1975. Public access to Dallas County and District Court case information does not require registration.
The county’s own disclaimer says the online criminal-background/case information is provided “as is” and is not for official use. If you need an official or certified record, use the correct clerk instead of printing the web result.
Felony vs. misdemeanor records
| Record type | Custodian | Current help route |

Felony copies, misdemeanor records and certified information
Felony records through the District Clerk
The Dallas County District Clerk says most felony case documents filed after 2009 are available through the county’s online criminal case portal. For records that are not online, record searches or certification, use the Felony Records Desk at the Frank Crowley Courts Building.
The current desk hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The District Clerk also accepts felony-record requests by email at [email protected] when the required Criminal Records Request Form is attached.
Misdemeanor criminal records through the County Clerk
The District Clerk specifically directs misdemeanor record requests to the Dallas County Clerk. The County Clerk Central Records page lists [email protected] as the preferred email route for criminal-record requests and publishes 214-653-5767 for criminal-record assistance.
Older file retrieval can take extra time. The County Clerk says older cases may be stored off-site; its FAQ warns that some files older than 2006 can take up to 72 hours to retrieve from the warehouse. Calling ahead can prevent a second trip.
Dallas jail lookup is not a Texas statewide background search
If you need a Texas criminal-history name search rather than a Dallas County jail booking, Texas DPS provides a separate Crime Records search. DPS currently charges $1 per search credit. Credit-card purchases add a 2.25% fee per credit plus a $0.25 transaction fee per order.
DPS also warns that a name-based match can identify the wrong person. The agency says fingerprint identification is the only way to positively link an individual to a criminal record, so do not treat a similar name as definitive identity.

Current in-person visitation schedule
| Inmate last name | Days | Visiting time |
|---|---|---|
| A through L | Monday and Thursday | 7:00 p.m.–9:00 p.m.; visitors are not processed after 8:30 p.m. |
| M through Z | Tuesday and Friday | 7:00 p.m.–9:00 p.m.; visitors are not processed after 8:30 p.m. |
| All inmates | Saturday and Sunday | 8:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m.; visitors are not processed after 1:30 p.m. |
The Sheriff currently limits each inmate to one 20-minute in-person visit per day and a maximum of two visits per week, excluding attorney, law-enforcement or approved professional visits. Up to four people may visit at once under the published adult/minor limits.
Cellphones are prohibited during in-person jail visitation. Dallas County specifically warns visitors to plan for this, including people who may rely on a phone to operate or access an electric vehicle.
Video visitation: verify the live rule before scheduling
Dallas County uses Smart Communications / SmartInmate for video visits. Two currently accessible Sheriff pages publish conflicting details: the dedicated Video Visitation page says visits must be scheduled at least 72 hours ahead and last 20 minutes, while the newer phone/tablet/mail update page says at least 24 hours ahead and 15 minutes.
Because both county pages are live, use the current SmartInmate scheduling interface and confirm the rule shown there before paying or planning a visit. Both Sheriff pages list on-site video availability Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday and no video visitation on Wednesday.
Review Dallas County video-visitation rules →How to send inmate mail and add money
Regular inmate mail
Dallas County routes regular inmate correspondence through a mail processing center. Include the inmate’s name and book-in number. Do not mail ordinary correspondence directly to the Lew Sterrett street address.
Dallas County inmate mail
Inmate’s name and book-in number
c/o Mail Processing Center
PO Box 9226
Seminole, FL 33775-9226
The sender should include a full name and return address. Dallas County says mail is not forwarded after release; it is returned to the sender or sent to the postal dead-letter department.
Attorney mail is different. The Sheriff says mail sent to the Seminole, Florida processing address is not confidential attorney correspondence. Attorneys should follow Dallas County’s separate legal-mail instructions.
Adding money to an inmate account
To deposit money, you need the inmate’s name and booking number. Dallas County currently lists cash kiosks at each jail, CashPayToday walk-in locations, Access Corrections online and a telephone-deposit option.
| Method | Current published detail |
|---|---|
| Jail kiosk | Cash can be deposited at a kiosk at each jail. |
| CashPayToday walk-in | Dallas County lists a flat $5.00 fee. |
| Access Corrections online | County guidance lists fees as low as $2.95. |
| Telephone deposit | 1-866-345-1884; county guidance lists fees as low as $3.95. |
The Sheriff says personal checks, payroll checks and money orders are not accepted as inmate trust-fund deposits through the jail’s current system.
If the person was transferred to Texas state custody
Dallas County Jail Lookup and TDCJ Offender Search cover different systems. Use Dallas County for local jail custody; move to TDCJ when the person has entered Texas state-correctional custody.
The current TDCJ search supports a name, SID number or current TDCJ number and also provides a separate previous-TDCJ-number search. It supports partial matches with an asterisk, which can help when you are uncertain of the full spelling.
