CCBI Mugshots & Wake County Arrest Search
The office once called CCBI is now the Wake County Bureau of Forensic Services. Its official arrest-record portal is the place to begin for Wake County booking photographs and arrest information—not the sheriff’s live inmate roster or a third-party mugshot gallery.
Records Search
Court, Criminal, Marriage, Divorce, Property
Searches can include arrests known to the Bureau from April 27, 2007 onward. The database is not guaranteed to include every arrest, may contain records affected by automatic expunction, and does not prove that someone is currently jailed or was convicted.
Which Wake County record should you search?
Most people searching for CCBI mugshots want one of three different things: the photograph from an arrest, confirmation that someone is in jail now, or the outcome of a criminal case. These records are held by different public authorities. Choosing the right system first prevents missed matches and outdated conclusions.

What does CCBI mean? CCBI referred to the Raleigh/Wake City-County Bureau of Identification. The agency now operates as the Wake County Bureau of Forensic Services. Older online guides, PDF instructions and search phrases still use “CCBI,” but the county’s present portal disclaimer identifies the current Bureau. The forensic bureau is not the same agency as the Wake County Sheriff’s Office, which operates jail detention.
The portal is countywide: arrests by Raleigh Police, Cary Police, Apex Police, Wake County Sheriff and other agencies may be included when the Bureau receives the information. It is not limited to Raleigh city arrests and it does not cover all North Carolina counties. The Town of Apex Police Department’s official FAQ explains that its officers do not publish booking mugshots themselves; those records are handled at the Wake County detention and identification stage.
How to use the official CCBI mugshot portal
The county’s CCBI Arrest Portal User Instruction Guide (2016 PDF) documents the portal’s original name, date, agency, photograph and arrest-detail options. The interface can change, so use the live labels you actually see rather than assuming every older screenshot still matches.
- Open the official disclaimer.
Go to Wake County’s arrest-record entry page. Read its notice about record completeness, expunction and permitted use. Continue only after acknowledging the terms.
- Choose name search or recent arrests.
For one person, open the available search controls. For a new booking, look for a recent-arrests link or date view if the current interface offers it. The 2016 guide documents a “Last 48 Hours of Arrests” feature; confirm it is still shown before relying on it.
- Enter an accurate name.
Start with last and first name. The historical user guide also documents optional middle name, arrest date-time range, arresting agency and sex filters. Names must closely match the version entered at arrest, so check reasonable spelling variations when no match appears.
- Narrow the date or agency.
If results are numerous, add an approximate arrest date or the relevant police department if those fields are available. Do not confuse date of arrest with the date a court formally files a case.
- Open the specific record.
Where the portal provides a photo or “Display” link, inspect the arrest record and compare date, agency and charge details. The older guide documents a printable arrest-details view and related Wake County arrest history; these features are not a substitute for a current court docket.
- Check the next authority.
For current custody, use Sheriff’s detention information. For charge status, hearings, dismissal or conviction, search NC eCourts or ask the Wake County Clerk. Do not present a booking record as a final verdict.
Record coverage is limited. The county says its online entries reflect Wake County arrests reported to the Bureau since April 27, 2007. It expressly does not guarantee a complete arrest history for any person. Certain entries may be subject to automatic expunction that the Bureau has not been told about. Treat a matching photograph as evidence of the recorded arrest event, not proof of current guilt or a complete criminal background check.
What details may be displayed?
Depending on the record and current interface, the portal has historically provided arrest dates, arresting agencies, alleged offenses, photos and an arrest-history view. Some older records have missing fields or different spellings. The 2016 guide also describes a bulk-export function; because this is older documentation and the county is reviewing access, do not assume bulk downloading remains available or permissible today.
Can you find today’s CCBI mugshots or the last 48 hours?
The old county user guide described an option for the “Last 48 Hours of Arrests,” with results ordered from newest to oldest and links to individual photos. That description is a reference to a 2016 version of the portal, not confirmation that every function remains in its original form in November 2026.
For a same-day search, first try the Bureau’s current portal and look for recent arrests or a date range. If the portal has changed or temporarily refuses access, use the public kiosks listed below. Processing delays and differences between arrest time and booking time can affect what appears.
A person released hours after booking can still have an arrest record even though a current jail roster no longer lists them. Conversely, an inmate roster may reflect a new custody event before every field of the corresponding public arrest-history record is available. For the general distinction between daily booking logs and live jail rosters, see our recent mugshots and bookings guide.
Two Raleigh kiosks for Wake County arrest records
The official Bureau notice identifies two fixed-location public kiosks providing the same arrest information as the online portal. These are public search points, not an appointment to receive a certified criminal-history check. If your trip is specifically about portal availability or access changes, call 919-255-7369 before traveling.
John H. Baker Jr. Public Safety Center
330 S. Salisbury St., Raleigh, NC
Public kiosk: main lobby. The Bureau lists Monday–Friday, 8:30 a.m.–5:00 p.m., except Wake County-approved holidays.
Wake County Detention Center
3301 Hammond Rd., Raleigh, NC
Public kiosk: zero level, in front of the Magistrate’s office. The Bureau lists this lobby as open 24/7, including weekends and holidays.
Map: the downtown Salisbury Street kiosk. The Hammond Road kiosk is at a separate detention-center address; use its directions link above. The map does not indicate real-time lobby conditions.
Has the online CCBI portal permanently closed?
Not according to the official notice available for this review. The Bureau postponed its August 17, 2026 internet-to-kiosk change and said that a new implementation date would be announced in advance. The page does not give a new date. Because access can change, return to the official disclaimer and notice rather than relying on a news article reporting the superseded August plan.
Where to check if someone is in Wake County jail now
CCBI arrest records and live jail custody are separate. A mugshot may remain associated with an earlier arrest even after release, transfer or a later court decision. For current detention questions, use the Wake County Sheriff’s Office Detention Division and the Sheriff-linked Police-to-Citizen service where accessible.
The P2C platform has been associated with a Wake County inmate inquiry, but the newer web interface may reject some browser sessions. If that happens, return to the Sheriff’s official detention or records page for the current route rather than treating a blocked page as proof the person is not held. For urgent custody information, call the responsible detention facility using the contact published by the Sheriff’s Office.
| Source | Useful for | Not intended for |
|---|---|---|
| Wake County Bureau of Forensic Services | Wake County arrests and available booking photographs | Confirming today’s jail housing or final case result |
| Wake County Sheriff detention / P2C | Local inmate and detention inquiries where available | Complete countywide arrest history since 2007 |
| North Carolina Department of Adult Correction | State prison offenders, probationers and parolees | Wake County jail inmates |
| North Carolina eCourts and Clerk | Criminal case filings, hearings and dispositions | A live jail roster or mugshot gallery |
For state custody, the NC Department of Adult Correction offender-search page says its database excludes county jail information. If you are concerned about a person’s transfer or release, NC SAVAN provides automated custody information and registration for notifications. Its 24-hour number is 1-877-627-2826. NC SAVAN does not track every police-precinct hold or person who bonds out without being booked into jail.
How to check charges, court dates and case outcomes
A CCBI entry can show an arresting charge, but the judicial outcome belongs to the court record. Charges may be amended, dismissed or resolved, and the arrest portal may not reflect all later events. North Carolina’s eCourts system is in use in all 100 counties, including Wake County.
- Open eCourts Portal and choose Smart Search for case information, or search hearings for scheduled court appearances.
- Enter the party’s name or case number; narrow to Wake County where the interface allows. Look for a case identifier, court events and any recorded disposition.
- Check for a different charge wording or case number from the original arrest. A mugshot entry and court docket do not necessarily share the same identifier.
- If you need an official certified record or confirmation, use the Wake County Clerk of Superior Court. The court says Portal is not itself the official court record.
Wake County Justice Center: 300 S. Salisbury St., Raleigh, NC 27601. The North Carolina Judicial Branch identifies it as the location for Wake County criminal matters. Main telephone: 919-792-4000. Published court hours: Monday–Friday, 8:30 a.m.–5:00 p.m., except closures. See the official courthouse details.
Do you need a certified background check?
North Carolina provides a county-specific certified criminal record search through the clerk, using Form AOC-CR-314. The Judicial Branch currently lists a $25 fee for this single-county service; it is not a statewide background check. The clerk’s free self-service computers can be used for non-certified court record searches, although printing may cost extra. Do not use CCBI mugshots or the public eCourts Portal as a substitute for a formal background check.
Why the CCBI search may show no mugshot or no match
A missing name, photo or arrest entry does not necessarily mean the person was never arrested. The Bureau’s own notice warns that its records can be incomplete and that expunction notices are not always passed to it.
| Problem | Likely explanation | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| No name match | Spelling or name variation; record not known to the Bureau | Try known variations and verify Wake County was the arrest jurisdiction. |
| Recent arrest not displayed | Intake or public database update still pending | Check the current search again; ask the correct detention agency if timing matters. |
| Arrest photo unavailable | The current record or disclosure policy does not show the image | Check the official record and contact the custodian for permitted release options. |
| Portal blocked or changed | Website access issue or later portal transition | Use the county’s notice and two public kiosks; call 919-255-7369 about the change. |
| Mugshot exists but no jail result | Person released, moved or no longer in county custody | Use Sheriff’s detention inquiry, NC DAC for state prison, or court records. |
| Charge differs from court outcome | Later amendment, dismissal or disposition | Use eCourts and the Wake Clerk for the official case history. |
If you are dealing with a mistaken identification, compare the arresting agency, event date and other lawfully displayed details. Never rely solely on a similar name or photograph. For an arrest incident report, contact the law-enforcement agency that investigated the incident: the North Carolina Judicial Branch explains that police reports are held by investigating agencies, not automatically by the court.
Automatic expunctions and why old CCBI photos need caution
One reason Wake County announced changes to online arrest information was concern that older entries may remain visible after certain offenses have been automatically expunged. The Bureau’s disclaimer explicitly mentions North Carolina General Statute § 15A-146(a4) and says it does not receive Administrative Office of the Courts notifications for every automatically expunged offense.
Consequently, a listing could be incomplete, outdated, or legally inconsistent with what the court now records. An arrest is not a conviction, and a dated mugshot must not be used to imply someone was found guilty. If a record should have been expunged or an entry is wrong, first obtain the relevant court information, then seek correction through the record-owning agency and the appropriate expunction process. See the Judicial Branch’s court-records and expunction guidance.
This independent guide cannot remove images from the county portal or certify an individual’s criminal history. Avoid fee-based “instant removal” offers that imply they control government records. Do not use arrest listings for harassment, intimidation, or unverified employment or housing decisions.
CCBI mugshots: frequently asked questions
Where is the official CCBI mugshot search?
Use Wake County Bureau of Forensic Services’ arrest-record portal. Read the disclaimer and follow its current search instructions. CCBI is the agency’s former name.
Did Wake County shut down its online mugshot database in August 2026?
No. The Bureau’s official notice says the planned August 17, 2026 transition was postponed. No replacement implementation date is listed in that notice. Public kiosks are also available.
What dates does the Wake CCBI portal cover?
The Bureau says it contains Wake County arrests known to it from April 27, 2007 to the present. Not every arrest is guaranteed to appear.
How can I search the last 48 hours of Wake County arrests?
The Bureau’s 2016 user guide documented a “Last 48 Hours of Arrests” link. Look for that feature or current date filters after entering the live portal; if absent, ask about available access at the public kiosks.
Can I use the CCBI mugshot portal to see who is currently in jail?
No. It is an arrest-history source. The Wake County Sheriff’s detention systems are the proper place for current custody inquiries.
Where can I search Wake County arrest photos in person?
The county lists kiosks at 330 S. Salisbury St. and 3301 Hammond Rd. in Raleigh. The downtown lobby is listed for weekday business hours; the detention-center kiosk lobby is listed as accessible 24/7.
How much does it cost to search CCBI mugshots?
The county provides a public arrest-record portal and kiosks, but the notice does not list a fee for a basic search. A separate certified single-county criminal record search from the clerk currently costs $25 under the Judicial Branch’s published schedule.
Why might a record appear after an expunction?
The Bureau says it is not notified of every offense automatically expunged under North Carolina law. Use court records and the responsible agency’s correction procedures to check disputed entries.
Is a CCBI photo proof of guilt or conviction?
No. It documents an arrest or booking-related event. Filed charges and final decisions must be checked through the court.
What is the difference between CCBI and Wake County Sheriff’s Office?
The Bureau of Forensic Services manages forensic identification and the arrest-record portal. The Sheriff’s Office runs local detention and is a different source for custody information.
Where do I find court dates and case outcomes?
Use the North Carolina eCourts Portal for public case information or contact the Wake County Clerk of Superior Court for official copies and assistance.
Can I sign up for custody or release notifications?
NC SAVAN provides free automated custody notifications. Call 1-877-627-2826 or use the official NC Department of Adult Correction’s SAVAN page to learn about eligibility and registration.

Use the record holder that answers your question
For a Wake County arrest photo, start with the Bureau’s official portal and its current disclaimer. For a current inmate, use the Sheriff’s detention contact or public inquiry service. For dismissal, conviction or sentencing questions, use eCourts and the Wake County Clerk. If internet access changes, the two Raleigh kiosks provide an established alternative.
