J. Reuben Long records answer different questions
The detention booking system, police report and court index are separate records. Start with the record that matches what you are trying to confirm instead of assuming the jail page contains the entire criminal case.
Bookings & Releases
Use the county application to search people processed at J. Reuben Long by last name, booking date or release date.
Booking desk
Call J. Reuben Long Booking when an arrest or release is too recent or time-sensitive to rely only on an online result.
Horry Public Index
Use the court index for later court activity, filed cases, dispositions and other judicial information.
Arresting agency
The jail can hold a person arrested by another agency. Request the incident report from the agency that created it.
SAVIN / Victim Services
Victims can use Horry County Victim Services and South Carolina SAVIN for custody and release notifications.
Local records check
The Sheriff’s Office provides local record checks under its published rules and also directs residents to the Public Index.
How to search J. Reuben Long bookings and releases
Horry County’s official booking application is the clearest starting point for J. Reuben Long mugshot and booking searches. The current form provides fields for last name, booking date and release date.
Open Horry County Bookings & Releases
Use the county-hosted Bookings & Releases application rather than a copied commercial mugshot page.
Enter the information you actually know
Search by last name and, when useful, a booking or release date. A date-based search is more reliable than assuming the database is a fixed “today” or “last 24 hours” gallery.
Compare identity and booking details
Review the name, date of birth or age information, booking number, booking date, release date and arresting agency when those fields are displayed.
Look at the release field
If a release date appears, do not describe that person as currently incarcerated based on an old screenshot or saved mugshot page.
Call Booking when timing matters
Horry County currently lists J. Reuben Long Booking at 843-915-6911.
Continue to the court case
Use the Horry County Public Index when you need to know what happened after booking. The arrest-stage charge is not necessarily the final charge or disposition.
What a J. Reuben Long booking record does—and does not—show
| Booking field | Useful for | Important limitation |
|---|---|---|
| Mugshot / booking image | Helping identify the detention intake record when a photo is displayed. | A photograph does not prove guilt or conviction. |
| Booking date | Showing when the detention intake was recorded. | It is not the date the court case was resolved. |
| Release date | Showing that the detention entry reflects a release event. | Release from jail does not mean the criminal case ended. |
| Booking number | Distinguishing a particular jail intake. | It is different from a court case number. |
| Arresting agency | Identifying which law-enforcement agency was associated with the arrest. | The arresting agency may not be the office that holds the jail or court record. |
| Initial charge | Showing the allegation recorded during the booking stage. | The charge may later be amended, dismissed, reduced or prosecuted differently. |

Use the Horry County Public Index after the jail booking
The jail database is strongest for booking and release information. The Fifteenth Judicial Circuit Public Index is the better source for later court activity and a person’s local court record.
The Public Index can be searched using names, court agency or case type, court actions or dispositions, and date ranges of court activity. Use it when you need to follow the case beyond the initial jail entry.

The Sheriff also points residents to the Public Index for local records available online.
If you need a police report
J. Reuben Long is the detention facility, not necessarily the agency that investigated the incident. If Horry County Police Department created the report, its citizen guidance says a report bearing your name can be provided to you free of charge after it has been completed and verified. A report that does not contain your name currently carries a $2 fee, subject to applicable redactions.
If Myrtle Beach Police, North Myrtle Beach Police, South Carolina Highway Patrol or another agency made the arrest, request the underlying incident report from that agency rather than assuming the Detention Center holds it.
Victim Services coordinates bond and release notifications

The county currently limits ordinary scanned mail to five pages, front-side writing only, and one photo per mailing. The inmate’s name, account number and a return address are required.
