Search Athens-Clarke County Jail Bookings, Inmates and Arrest Records Through Official Sources
For Athens-Clarke County jail mugshots, current inmates and booking information, start with the Clarke County Sheriff’s Office. Its public jail system provides a current-prisoner list and a separate booking recap report. Police reports, court dispositions and Georgia state-prison records are maintained in different systems, so use the record that matches the question you are trying to answer.

Which Athens-Clarke County record should you search?
The Sheriff, Athens-Clarke County Police Department, local courts and Georgia Department of Corrections maintain different parts of the record trail. A current jail search should not be used as a substitute for a police report or final court disposition.
Clarke County current inmate list
Use the Sheriff’s current-prisoner list when you want to know whether a person appears in the public Clarke County Jail population.
Search current inmates →Jail Booking Recap Report
Use the recap when you need booking time, arresting agency, release information, charges, bond, warrant or police-case fields available in the Sheriff’s booking data.
Open booking recap →ACCPD open records
If Athens-Clarke County Police handled the arrest or incident, use Police/Corrections Open Records for releasable reports and related records.
Open records information →Clarke County Sheriff open records
Use the Sheriff’s open-record contact when the requested record belongs to the Sheriff’s Office rather than ACCPD.
Sheriff records contact →Superior, State, Magistrate or Municipal Court
The correct court depends on the case. Use court records when you need filed charges, disposition or certified copies rather than the booking-stage allegation.
Athens-Clarke courts →Georgia Department of Corrections
If a person has moved from the county jail into a Georgia prison or state correctional facility, use GDC’s offender search instead.
Search Georgia offenders →How the official Clarke County current-inmate list works
The Clarke County Sheriff’s Office publishes online access to selected information about the current jail population, but the agency describes the data as unofficial and warns that it does not guarantee accuracy, reliability or completeness.
Open the Sheriff’s current-inmate page
Use the Athens-Clarke County Unified Government page rather than a copied third-party roster.
Do not expect an immediate result after arrest
A person booked only a few hours ago may not yet appear because of the Sheriff’s stated 24-hour delay for newly booked inmates.
Compare identifiers carefully
The public listing can include fields such as name, sex, booking date, first displayed charge, bond amount, case number, police case number and year of birth.
Do not stop at the first displayed charge
The current-prisoner page identifies itself as displaying the first charge only. Open the detailed booking data or court case if you need a fuller charge picture.
Verify time-sensitive information directly
If custody or release status matters immediately, contact the Sheriff’s Office or jail rather than relying only on a cached or previously viewed page.
Use the Jail Booking Recap Report for more booking detail
The Sheriff’s booking recap is especially useful when your intent is broader than “who is in jail right now.” It can show arrest and release information connected with the booking process.
| Field | What it can help you verify |
|---|---|
| Booking time | When the jail recorded the booking event. |
| Arresting agency | Which law-enforcement agency is associated with the booking entry. |
| Release time | Whether the report records a later release and when it occurred. |
| Charge / crime type | The allegation and general classification shown in the booking data. |
| Court jurisdiction | Where the case may be routed when that field is populated. |
| Bond information | Published bonding company or bond amount fields associated with the record. |
| Warrant / police case number | Identifiers that may help locate the corresponding agency or court record. |
Are Athens-Clarke County jail mugshots always displayed?
No. The Sheriff’s detailed booking system has a place for booking photographs, but current records can also display “Photo not available.” A valid booking record can therefore exist even when the public page does not currently show a photograph.
Use the underlying data even if no image appears
Booking date, arresting agency, charge, bond and case identifiers are often more useful for verification than the photograph itself.
Do not assume the booking is missing
A public detail page may contain booking and charge information while the photograph field is unavailable. Follow the record trail rather than treating the missing image as evidence that the arrest did not occur.
Jail mugshot, booking record, police report and court case are different records
Using the correct record matters because each source describes a different stage of the criminal-justice process.
| Record | Best used for | Does not prove |
|---|---|---|
| Mugshot | Identifying a booking photograph when one is publicly available. | Guilt or conviction. |
| Current-prisoner listing | Checking selected information about the public jail population. | A complete historical arrest record. |
| Booking recap | Reviewing booking, arresting-agency, release and bond-related fields. | The final court disposition. |
| Police report | Reviewing releasable information documented by the investigating agency. | Every later court event. |
| Court record | Checking filed charges, docket activity, pleas, sentencing and dispositions when available. | The complete law-enforcement investigative file. |
| GDC offender record | Checking qualifying Georgia state-corrections custody information. | Every current county-jail booking. |

Do not confuse the county jail with the Athens-Clarke County Correctional Institution
Athens-Clarke County operates another corrections facility at County Farm Road. It is not the same facility as the Sheriff’s Clarke County Jail on Lexington Road.
Clarke County Jail
3015 Lexington Road. This is the local jail relevant to the Sheriff’s public inmate and booking search.
Athens-Clarke County Correctional Institution
2825 County Farm Road. This is a separate Athens-Clarke County Corrections Department facility, with its own operations and contact information.
Official Corrections Department →Bond and first-appearance hearings after an Athens-Clarke County arrest
Athens-Clarke County Magistrate Court holds first-appearance hearings every day, including weekends and holidays. The hearing informs the arrested person of the charges and allows the judge to consider bail and release conditions where authorized.
Usually at the courthouse
The Magistrate Court currently says weekday first appearances are usually held at 8:30 a.m. at the Clarke County Courthouse, although the time can change.
Held at the jail
On weekends and county holidays, first appearances are held at the Clarke County Jail at a time set by the presiding judge. The court directs people to call the jail at 706-613-3270 for those hearing times.
Visitation and inmate communication
If your inmate search is really about contacting someone in jail, use the Sheriff’s current communication rules rather than an unofficial inmate directory.
Remote video visitation
Current Sheriff’s guidance says public visitation is conducted through internet video and that ordinary public visitation is not available through the jail lobby.
Visitation may not be immediate
The inmate must complete intake processing before visitors can connect. The Sheriff’s visitation page says this may take up to 24 hours from booking.
JailATM
The current page lists 15-minute scheduled video visits at $3.75 and unscheduled video at $0.25 per minute. Verify the current vendor rate before paying.
Pay Tel
The Sheriff’s site currently identifies Pay Tel as the inmate telephone provider and publishes customer-service information for friends and family.
Sending money to someone in Clarke County Jail
The jail maintains individual inmate accounts for commissary and other permitted uses, including use of account funds toward bail or fines where applicable.
Money orders are no longer accepted
The Sheriff’s current account policy states that, effective September 8, 2026, Athens-Clarke County Jail no longer accepts money orders. Cash, credit-card or debit-card deposits can be made through the Smart Deposit kiosk in the front lobby, subject to current rules and service fees.
How to request an Athens-Clarke County Police arrest or incident report
If ACCPD created the report, use the Police/Corrections Open Records route. The Police Records Management Unit maintains current and historical police files related to crime and traffic and responds to public open-record requests.

Check the court record after an Athens-Clarke County jail booking
The Clerk of Superior & State Courts keeps the official record of civil and criminal actions filed in those courts. Magistrate Court, Municipal Court and other local courts handle different types or stages of cases.
Superior & State Courts Clerk
The Magistrate Court’s current record guidance directs misdemeanor and felony disposition inquiries to the Clerk of Superior & State Courts when the matter was not resolved in Magistrate Court.
Clerk of Superior & State Courts →Magistrate Court
Magistrate Court maintains its own case records and provides certified copies for Magistrate Court cases. If the case was disposed of elsewhere, the court directs requesters to the appropriate final-disposition court.
Magistrate records →Municipal Court
Current Magistrate guidance directs traffic citations to Athens-Clarke County Municipal Court. Do not assume every booking goes to Superior Court.

Need a certified criminal disposition instead of a mugshot?
A certified court disposition is usually more useful than a booking photograph when you need official proof of how a criminal case concluded.
| Record | Current published fee / instruction |
|---|---|
| Superior / State Court certified disposition packet | $5; the county FAQ says the packet includes accusation or indictment, plea paperwork and sentencing information. |
| Other certified Superior / State Court copy | $2.50 for the first page and $0.50 for each additional page. |
| Magistrate certified copy | Current Magistrate request form lists $4 per document. |
| Magistrate certified entire file | Current request form lists $14. |
Need a criminal-history search rather than an inmate lookup?
The Clarke County Sheriff’s Office publishes a separate criminal-history service. This is different from the live jail search and different from requesting a certified court disposition.
Criminal history request
The Sheriff’s current fee schedule lists a $20 criminal-history fee. Service hours are published as Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.
Sheriff fees →Check, cash or money order
The current Sheriff’s service page says debit and credit cards are not accepted for these office services and lists check, cash or money order as payment methods.
If the person moved from Clarke County Jail to a Georgia prison
County-jail custody and Georgia Department of Corrections custody are separate. GDC’s offender search is appropriate when the person is currently in a state correctional facility.
GDC Find an Offender
Georgia Department of Corrections allows searches using identifying information, GDC ID or case information. GDC notes that offender photographs, when available, are displayed automatically and that users should verify important information before relying on it.
Search GDC offenders →What to do when an Athens-Clarke County inmate or mugshot search gives no result
A missing name or photograph can have several explanations. Follow the record chain instead of assuming no arrest occurred.
| Problem | Possible explanation | Next step |
|---|---|---|
| Person was just arrested but does not appear | The Sheriff’s public current-inmate list has a stated 24-hour booking delay. | Allow for processing and contact the jail for time-sensitive confirmation. |
| No mugshot appears | The detailed booking system can show “Photo not available.” | Use booking, charge, bond and case identifiers instead of assuming there is no record. |
| Current list shows only one charge | The official prisoner listing identifies itself as displaying the first charge only. | Open detailed booking data and later court records. |
| Name disappeared from current jail list | The person may have been released, transferred or otherwise left current county-jail custody. | Check booking recap, court records and GDC when state custody is possible. |
| Need the arrest narrative | A jail entry is not the full police incident report. | Identify the arresting agency and submit the appropriate open-record request. |
| Booking charge differs from court record | Charges may change after arrest and prosecutorial review. | Use the court docket or certified disposition for later case status. |
| Same-name person appears | A name-only result can refer to another person. | Compare year of birth, MID number, case number, booking date and other identifiers. |
| Wrong Athens corrections facility | The county jail and Correctional Institution are different facilities. | Use the Sheriff’s jail system for 3015 Lexington Road bookings. |
| Record is restricted or unavailable | Privacy law, court order or an Open Records Act exception may limit disclosure. | Ask the official custodian about lawful access rather than attempting to bypass restrictions. |
Use Athens-Clarke County booking information responsibly
Jail and arrest information changes over time. Charges may be modified, dismissed, resolved through a plea, tried or otherwise disposed of after the booking record was created.
A mugshot is not a conviction record
Do not describe someone as convicted merely because a booking image, jail entry or arrest report exists.
Do not rely on a name alone
Use dates, booking identifiers, year of birth and court information to reduce the risk of matching the wrong person.
