Search Current Washoe County Inmates and Follow the Booking Record
Start with the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office inmate search when someone may currently be held at the Washoe County Detention Facility. The public roster is updated about every 15 minutes and searches current custody by last name. Washoe County no longer displays mugshots or other personal identifiers on the public web roster, so use the Sheriff’s separate photo-request process if a releasable booking photograph is the record you actually need.

Official Washoe County Jail Roster and Inmate Search
The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office provides the official public search for people currently incarcerated in the Washoe County Detention Facility. The Sheriff says the information is updated every 15 minutes and contains in-custody inmates.
The search requires at least the first three letters of the inmate’s last name. Because the Sheriff warns that the online list may not be complete, the agency specifically directs users to call the Detention Facility at 775-328-3062 if they believe someone is in custody but cannot locate that person online.
Current inmate
Use the Sheriff roster when the person may still be held at the county detention facility.
Released person
Move to Sheriff records and the appropriate court because the live roster is designed around current custody.
State-prison inmate
Use the Nevada Department of Corrections offender search rather than repeating the Washoe County jail search.
How to Search the Washoe County Jail Roster
Why Washoe County Mugshots No Longer Appear on the Public Web Roster
Washoe County is different from counties that still publish booking photographs directly beside every inmate result. The Sheriff’s current inmate-search page states that mugshots and other personal identifiers are no longer available through the public web search because of due-process and privacy considerations associated with court rulings.
That change means the phrase “Washoe County inmate search mugshots” now involves two separate tasks: use the public jail search to confirm current custody, then use the Sheriff’s records process if you need to ask whether a particular booking photograph can be released.
How to Request a Washoe County Booking Photo
The Sheriff’s Records Section maintains a dedicated public-record photo-request process. Its current fee schedule lists booking photos at no charge. A zero-dollar fee does not mean every photograph must be released; public-record law, redaction requirements and the status of the specific record can still affect availability.
Photo request route
Use the Sheriff’s Photo Requests page, which sends public-record photo requests through the agency’s request system.
Records contact
Photo Requests lists 775-328-3030. The Sheriff’s general Records Section number is 775-328-3023.
Information to include in a useful request
- Full name of the person connected to the booking.
- Approximate booking or arrest date.
- Booking number if known.
- Arresting agency if known.
- A clear statement that you are requesting the booking photograph or another specific photo record.

Why Someone May Not Appear in the Washoe County Inmate Search
The Sheriff’s own disclaimer says the online roster may not be a complete list of in-custody inmates. Use the person’s custody stage and arrest jurisdiction to decide what to check next.
The booking is very recent
The roster refreshes frequently, but intake and data processing can still affect when a new arrest becomes searchable.
The person was released
The current-custody roster may no longer help. Move to Sheriff records and the appropriate court.
The name is entered differently
Try a stable three-letter or longer portion of the last name, especially when spelling, hyphenation or suffixes are uncertain.
The person is in another system
State prison, federal custody, immigration detention and another Nevada county each use different inmate systems.
The online roster is incomplete
Call the Detention Facility at 775-328-3062, which is the fallback published by the Sheriff.
You need a historical record
A live jail roster is not a complete criminal-history archive. Use Records or the court instead.
Washoe County Detention Facility
The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office operates the county’s adult detention facility for pretrial detainees and sentenced misdemeanants. County information also notes that the facility receives detainees from numerous local, state and federal law-enforcement agencies.

Finding someone at this facility does not necessarily tell you which police agency made the arrest. Reno Police, Sparks Police, the Sheriff’s Office and other agencies may all create their own incident or arrest reports. Request that report from the agency that created it.
Washoe County Jail Visitation, Calls, Mail and Money
Washoe County currently uses Smart Communications for inmate visitation and communications. Visitors create an account, submit a government-issued ID image and current face photo, and wait for approval before scheduling.
On-site video visiting
The Sheriff’s current visiting page lists on-site video visitation in the public lobby Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Personal visits must be scheduled at least 24 hours in advance.
Video visits
Use the Smart Communications system and follow the Sheriff’s current approval and scheduling instructions.
Phone calls
Inmates can make outgoing calls to approved family and friends. Incoming calls are not accepted except approved voicemail messages.
Money accounts
Use the inmate-services links published by the Sheriff. Vendor rules and fees should be checked before payment.
Do Not Send Bail Money Because of an Unsolicited Call
The Sheriff’s inmate-search page currently carries a bail-payment scam warning. WCSO says staff will never contact you to demand bail payments through Venmo, Cash App, Bitcoin, gift cards or similar digital methods.
The Sheriff also states that bail is no longer automatically set solely from new charges. Once a judge sets bail, the inmate information is updated with the imposed amount.
Washoe County Criminal History Request
If you are searching your own older Washoe County arrest or booking history rather than current custody, the Sheriff’s Records Section provides a local Criminal History Request.
Your own record
WCSO says it provides its arrests and/or bookings from the previous 10 years. Dispositions are included when available.
Another person’s record
The Sheriff says only Washoe County arrests resulting in conviction are supplied under the public process for other people, and authorization or other restrictions may apply.
Current published requirements
- Complete the Sheriff’s Criminal History Request Form.
- Current service charge: $10.
- Include the required payment and a photocopy of government-issued ID for your own request.
- Mail the request to the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office Records Section at 911 Parr Blvd., Reno, NV 89512.
- The Sheriff’s page says processing may take up to 10 days, and longer for extensive histories.
The Sheriff’s Office also warns that its local history is not automatically a complete history of every arrest in Washoe County. Reno Police, Sparks Police, Nevada Highway Patrol and other agencies maintain records they created.
Use the Correct Washoe County Court for the Criminal Case
A jail booking and a court case are different records. Washoe County cases can be handled by the Second Judicial District Court, Reno Justice Court, Sparks Justice Court, municipal courts or another court depending on the charge and jurisdiction.
The booking information or subsequent court paperwork should identify the court of jurisdiction. For matters in the Second Judicial District Court, the Court provides an online Case & Calendar Inquiry for public case information and calendars.

Justice Court matters
Washoe County’s Public Defender directs users to Reno Justice Court or Sparks Justice Court for hearings when those courts have jurisdiction. Do not search only District Court if the booking names a different court.
Second Judicial District Court Search and Copy Fees
When online case information is not sufficient, the Second Judicial District Court accepts records-search and copy requests. Its current fee schedule publishes the following charges.
| Service | Published fee | Practical use |
|---|---|---|
| Record search | $0.50 per name, per year searched | Useful when staff must search by a person’s name and year range. |
| Court record copy | $0.50 per page | Applies to copied court records. |
| Exemplification | $6 plus reproduction cost | Used when an exemplified court copy is required. |
The Court’s Records Search Request form states that search fees must be paid in advance. The Court website also says copy requests may take up to five business days and may be delivered by email when appropriate.
Nevada State Prison and Custody Notifications
The Nevada Department of Corrections handles people serving state-prison sentences. NDOC explicitly distinguishes its offender system from recent local arrests and pretrial detention. If someone was recently arrested in northern Nevada and has not been sentenced to state prison, Washoe County may still be the correct place to begin.
Nevada prison search
NDOC supports searches by Offender ID or by first and last name.
Nevada S.A.V.E.
Nevada replaced VINE with S.A.V.E. in August 2025. The Sheriff describes S.A.V.E. as a free, anonymous, 24-hour custody movement information and notification service.
Washoe County’s current S.A.V.E. information lists 866-393-5445 for the service and cautions users not to rely on a notification system as their only safety measure.
A Washoe County Booking Is Not the Final Criminal Record
An inmate roster answers a custody question. A booking photo, when releasable, identifies a photograph connected with an intake event. A criminal-history request summarizes a defined set of local records. A court docket addresses the filed criminal case.
These records should not be treated as interchangeable. When accuracy matters, follow the information from custody to the court of jurisdiction instead of presenting an arrest allegation as a conviction.

Looking for a Recent Booking Outside Washoe County?
Jail and booking systems are jurisdiction-specific. A Washoe County search does not cover every Nevada county or every U.S. detention system.
