The Shawnee County Jail Is Not Operated by the Sheriff

After an Arrest: Shawnee County Diversion May Be Relevant in Some Cases
One piece of practical post-arrest information missing from many mugshot pages is Shawnee County’s Diversion Program.
Diversion is not available for every offense and it is not automatically granted. The District Attorney explains that eligibility depends on the offense, circumstances and criminal history.

Shawnee County Adult Jail Visitation: Current 2026 Process
Shawnee County changed its inmate-communications vendor beginning January 21, 2025. The Department of Corrections currently identifies Smart Communications as the provider for inmate communications and video visitation.
The county says off-site/remote visits are available and that visitors use either an on-site kiosk or the Smart Communications website to schedule visits.

Shawnee County’s current public pages contain an important inconsistency that users should know about.
The current Correspondence page says, “No money is allowed to be sent through the mail.” A separate Inmate Funds page still describes accepted bank money orders, cashier’s checks and certain other checks.
