Search Morgan County Jail Inmates, Mugshots and Recent Bookings
The Morgan County Sheriff’s Office maintains the official county jail roster. You can search current inmates by name, sort bookings by date, open individual inmate profiles and use a separate 48 Hour Release list when you are trying to find someone who recently left the jail.
Records Search
Court, Criminal, Marriage, Divorce, Property
A jail photo, booking entry or listed charge documents an arrest or custody event. It does not establish guilt or show the final outcome of a criminal case. Morgan County’s own roster warns that charges and bail can change after court appearances.
Which Morgan County Record Actually Answers Your Question?
“Morgan County jail mugshots” can describe several different searches. A current jail roster, recent-release list, Sheriff’s record, court case and Alabama state-prison search each answer a different question.
Is the person in Morgan County Jail now?
Choose Current Inmates on the Sheriff’s official roster page. The roster can be searched by first or last name and can be sorted by booking date.
Open Morgan County Inmate Roster →Was the person released recently?
Use the Sheriff’s 48 Hour Release option. It is specifically designed to show people released from Morgan County Jail during the previous 48 hours.
Open Roster Options →Need a mugshot, charges or bond listing?
Open the matching inmate profile. Depending on the record, it can display a booking photograph, booking number, arresting agency, booking date, charge and bond information.
Need to know what happened after arrest?
Use the Morgan County Circuit Clerk for circuit and district court records. A jail entry is not the final court disposition.
Morgan County Circuit Clerk →Was the person transferred to ADOC?
Use Alabama Department of Corrections Inmate Search when the person may be serving a state sentence rather than remaining in county jail.
Search Alabama DOC →Need current bail or custody confirmation?
Morgan County’s inmate profiles warn that bail and charges may change. For current jail information, contact the detention staff at 256-351-4825.
Call Morgan County Jail →How to Search the Morgan County Jail Inmate Roster
The Sheriff’s roster provides more than a simple list of names. Users can switch between current and released inmates, search by name and sort current records by booking date.
Open the Sheriff’s inmate roster page
Start at the Morgan County Sheriff’s official roster selector and choose Current Inmates when you need current county-jail custody information.
Search the first or last name
The roster provides a name-search field. Enter the most accurate spelling you have and avoid assuming the first similar name is the person you need.
Sort by booking date when timing matters
The official roster can be sorted newest-to-oldest or oldest-to-newest. This is useful when you are looking for a recent intake rather than a specific known name.
Open the inmate profile
Review the available photograph and identifiers, booking number, arresting agency, booking date, charges and bond entries. Some profiles contain multiple charges.
Verify current bond before attempting release
Morgan County explicitly warns that displayed charges and bail amounts may change after court appearances. Contact the jail when you need the correct current bail amount, charges or case numbers.
How to Find Recent Morgan County Jail Bookings
The current roster can be sorted by booking date, making it possible to review the newest currently listed bookings. That is different from claiming the Sheriff’s site maintains a permanent “last 7 days” or “last 30 days” mugshot archive.
| What you need | Best starting source | Important limitation |
|---|---|---|
| Newest people currently in jail | Current Inmates → sort newest to oldest | A released person may disappear from the current list. |
| Specific inmate | Name search | Verify identity using more than a similar name or photograph. |
| Person released very recently | 48 Hour Release | The official release view is limited to its stated 48-hour period. |
| Older released booking | Sheriff records + court record | Do not treat the current jail roster as a complete historical arrest archive. |
| State prison inmate | Alabama DOC Inmate Search | ADOC covers its current incarcerated population, not ordinary county jail inmates. |
Does Morgan County publish booking photos?
Current Morgan County Sheriff inmate profiles display booking photographs for many listed inmates. A photograph should still be treated as part of a booking record, not as evidence that the person was convicted of the listed charge.
Use the Morgan County 48 Hour Release List
Morgan County provides a useful option that many county-jail sites do not: a dedicated list of people released from the jail within the previous 48 hours.
When this list helps
- The person appeared in jail recently but is no longer under Current Inmates.
- You are checking whether a recent booking ended in release.
- You need to distinguish current detention from a recent completed jail stay.
What it cannot tell you
Release from county jail does not tell you whether the criminal case ended. A person can be released while charges continue through district or circuit court.
For the later legal status of the case, move to the Morgan County Circuit Clerk’s records.
What a Morgan County Inmate Profile Can Show
Individual roster profiles contain several types of information. Read each field according to what it actually represents rather than treating the complete profile as a final criminal-history report.
| Field | What it means | Important caution |
|---|---|---|
| Mugshot / booking image | A photograph associated with the displayed jail booking when provided. | The image does not prove guilt or conviction. |
| Booking number | An identifier attached to the jail booking record. | It should not be confused with a court case number or Alabama DOC AIS number. |
| Arresting agency | Can identify the agency responsible for the listed arrest, such as Morgan County Sheriff’s Office or a municipal police agency. | The county jail can hold people arrested by agencies other than the Sheriff. |
| Booking date | Shows when the person was entered into the listed jail booking. | It may not be the same date as every underlying incident or court filing. |
| Charge | Shows the charge or warrant description attached to that jail record. | Charges can be amended, dismissed or resolved differently in court. |
| Bond type / amount | Shows the bond status recorded on the roster at that time. | The Sheriff warns that bond information can change after court appearances. |
Check Morgan County Bond Information Carefully
Morgan County inmate profiles may show secure bond, municipal bond, cash-only bond, no-bond status, revoked bond or another entry depending on the underlying case and warrant.
The roster amount can change
The Sheriff’s inmate profiles state that charges and bail amounts may change following court appearances and may not always reflect the current amount.
If someone intends to post bail, the Sheriff directs bond companies and other people posting bail to contact Detention Center staff for the correct bail amount, charges and case numbers.
Who sets bond?
Morgan County Sheriff’s published bond guidance explains that Alabama uses a bail schedule as a starting point, while magistrates and judges can consider the charge and case circumstances. Bond can therefore vary even where two booking records appear to involve similar offenses.
Where to Look for an Older Morgan County Arrest
The live roster is designed around jail custody and recent releases. If the booking you need is older, identify the arresting agency and then follow the record into the appropriate law-enforcement and court systems.
Morgan County Sheriff’s Office
Use the Sheriff’s Records Division when the underlying record is maintained by MCSO rather than relying on an old copied mugshot page.
Open Sheriff’s Records Information →Check the arresting city agency
Morgan County Jail profiles can list agencies such as Decatur Police, Hartselle Police or another local department. A police incident or arrest report may therefore be maintained by that agency rather than MCSO.
Follow circuit or district proceedings
Morgan County Circuit Clerk maintains Morgan County circuit and district court records. Its records policy does not extend to federal, municipal or other counties’ records.
Open Morgan County Courts →Use Morgan County Court Records for the Later Case Status
The jail record documents custody. The Morgan County Circuit Clerk is the better source for circuit and district criminal proceedings after a case reaches court.

Circuit and District Court Searches
The Clerk’s current records form lists a $10 computerized-record search and a $25 paper/non-active-record search. The search fee applies even when no record is found.
The form lists $5 for the first 20 pages, $0.50 for each additional page and $5 for each certification.
Some court records are not public
The Morgan County Clerk’s records policy says records protected by law—including juvenile matters, youthful-offender cases, sealed cases and protected victim information—are not disclosed to the public. The Clerk also states that its office does not provide background checks.
Use Alabama DOC Search for State Prison Inmates
Alabama Department of Corrections maintains a separate inmate search for people currently incarcerated within ADOC. It is not a replacement for the Morgan County Jail roster.
Search by AIS number or name
ADOC allows searches using the Alabama Institutional Serial number or an inmate’s full name. The agency identifies the six-digit AIS number as the fastest way to locate a specific ADOC inmate.
Current inmates only
ADOC states that its online database contains currently incarcerated inmates and does not provide historical inmate information online. It also notes that the public search does not include people sentenced under Alabama’s Youthful Offender Act.
Morgan County Jail, Sheriff and Court Contacts
Use the agency that maintains the particular record you need. Calling the jail for a final court disposition or calling the Circuit Clerk for a Sheriff’s incident report can send you to the wrong office.

Why a Morgan County Inmate or Mugshot May Be Hard to Find
A failed search in one database is not enough to determine that an arrest never occurred. Check the custody stage, release timing, arresting jurisdiction and court system before reaching a conclusion.
| Problem | Possible explanation | Next step |
|---|---|---|
| Person is not under Current Inmates | They may have been released or transferred. | Check 48 Hour Release and then court records. |
| Recent release is not listed | The Sheriff’s release view covers only its stated recent period. | Use Sheriff’s records and the Circuit Clerk for older information. |
| Several names look similar | Name-only searches can create mistaken identity. | Compare age, booking number, arresting agency, date and other identifiers. |
| Bond differs from an older screenshot | Bond can change after a court appearance. | Call Morgan County Jail at 256-351-4825. |
| Charge looks different in court | Booking charges and later court charges are not necessarily identical. | Use the court record for later case status. |
| Person may be in state prison | County jail and ADOC are separate custody systems. | Search Alabama DOC by AIS number or name. |
| Municipal arrest details are missing | The arresting agency may be Decatur, Hartselle or another local department. | Identify the agency shown in the jail profile and contact that records custodian if needed. |
A Morgan County Mugshot Is Not a Conviction Record
A booking image and jail profile record a stage in the criminal-justice process. A person may later have charges changed or dismissed, receive a different disposition, or be found not guilty.
Confirm identity
Use multiple available identifiers. A similar name or appearance by itself can result in misidentifying an unrelated person.
Check the court
A jail charge reflects the booking stage. Court records are more appropriate when you need later filings or disposition information.
Use the current official source
Jail populations, bond amounts and case information can change. Use current county and state systems rather than relying on copied or cached listings.
